Offered here is an original 1964 first U.S. stereo pressing of Getz/Gilberto on Verve Records (V6-8545). This iconic album marks the global breakthrough of Brazilian bossa nova and includes the legendary track “The Girl from Ipanema,” sung by Astrud Gilberto, as well as brilliant playing from Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz.
Widely regarded as one of the most important and beautiful jazz albums of all time, this release won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Record of the Year in 1965 — the first jazz album ever to do so.
