Description
Toshiba Records (Pro-Use Series) #LF 91045. The jacket and plastic record-envelope are in near-mint condition, as is the record itself (original owner, played infrequently with diamond stylus, no apparent scratches, surface defects, or finger/hands contamination).
When the original Star Wars movie came out in 1977, there were a great many spin-off recordings of the very popular John Williams soundtrack. I got in the habit of collecting them, and I picked this record up just as part of that hobby. Boy, was I surprised: The NHK Orchestra took Williams' score and just lit it on fire! I have never heard the music played with such energy and electricity before or since.
Granted that this is an orchestral suite, which is designed for listening, not support of a movie showing per se. But that's what you're doing with your stereo anyway.
There are five tracks to the suite: Main Title Princess Leia's Theme The Little People The Battle The Throne Room and End Title
Each of these is a beautiful stand-alone piece in itself, and "Throne Room/End Title" will blow you right out of your chair. The original soundtrack album sounds like a tired old dog chewing a bone after this.
I had never heard of the NHK before, and recently looked it up on Amazon and iTunes Store to see if this marvelous album might still be available, possibly as a CD. There is lots of NHK music, but inexplicably not this one any more. I cannot understand why, since it's such a tour de force.
Of the various records I'm selling, this one I would never sell except that I was able to MP3 it with a very nice phonograph conversion device from Brookstone. Otherwise the album would not be for sale, period. My asking price reflects the connoisseur level of this recording; this is Star Wars for someone who absolutely has to hear it at its full power.
