Description

Starcastle- Citadel, 1978, Epic records, Picture Disc
Starcastle were a very passable American progressive rock band in the vein of 'Yes' (a poor Yes clone some said..) that had the poor luck to start their career (A) in 1975 (B) in the USA just at the point when 'Classic progressive rock' had just passed its high point.. They did produce 3 very good, well crafted melodic prog and one (their last) of duff AOR which their record label 'encouraged' them to record. They reformed in the 2000's but the death of bassist Gary Strater put the band on hiatus.
This picture disc is very collectable (the second rarest promo picture disc after Kansas' ''point of know return'' picture disc lp) as it was only pressed in very small quantities and only given to radio stations as a promotional item (not to play but to draw attention to the band). They were never (officially) for sale on the open market. It is also one of the most attractive picture discs ever produced with the fantastic Sci-fi art of the Hildebrandt brothers (Tim & Greg) who had produced art for book covers, comics, posters and trading cards.
1970's picture discs were notorious for playing very poorly from the off with lots of background noise and often jumps. Looking at the surface of this one, I would say that's probably the case with this one. Ive never played it and I don't know if its been played but its certainly been handled and shows some hairline marks and a few light scuffs and marks so can only be graded VG at best but its rarity (particularly on this side of the Atlantic) is reflected in the starting price.
Comes in a card die-cut sleeve in VG+ condition and a generic plastic inner
