I am downsizing my classic rock collection and will be selling a number of my LP's over the next couple of weeks. Up for auction is a first pressing from the Pitman pressing plant, ABC Records Steely Dan, "Greatest Hits" produced in 1978. This is an amazing sounding album, and as I own all the original vinyl pressings of Steely Dan and have listened carefully to this album, I would argue that the songs on this greatest hits original pressing sound better than on the original albums due to the mastering job done by the great Robert Ludwig on this album. I agree with Michael Fremer's review on this original pressing he said the same things, before I ever owned this album. My main goal was to collect Near Mint versions of original vinyl for my rock collection, I wanted the same for the outer and inner sleeves as well, but the main priority was to to get the best quality vinyl as possible for the best audio quality, and also to get the best versions. As far as condition goes, the outer sleeve is in VG+ condition, I would have rated it excellent, the only reason I am downgrading it it because there is mild rubbing to the color on the outside edges, there is a small 1/16" chip on the top of the back of the cover and some faint ghosting marks from the records on the front and back. Please see the pictures to see what I am talking about, the cover has very solid construction and looks very nice. The original inner sleeves are all NM. The vinyl itself is in beautiful near mint condition, no marks or flaws of any kind, and the labels are also near mint. The records play with near mint quality as well, no sonic issues of any kind. The dead wax shows the inscriptions consistent with what is called out by Discogs for the first pitman pressing and Masterdisk is inscribed in the deadwax on all four sides with RL inscribed as well on sides 2 and 3.
