This handsome 2-LP gatefold set from Command Classics (CC 12001SD, US pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably gold label, stereo) features conductor William Steinberg and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s magnificent accounts of Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 8 in F Major Op. 93 and No. 9 in D minor Op. 125 “Choral”.
In the latter conductor and orchestra were joined by the 141-member Mendelssohn Choir and vocal soloists Ella Lee (soprano), Joanna Simon (mezzo-soprano), Richard Kness (tenor), and Thomas Paul (bass).
These are glorious performances, vital and exultant, recordings that should be far better known. The sound is absolutely first rate (based on my own copy).

These remarkable performances were set down at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, Pittsburgh, in April 1966 (producers: Loren Becker, Robert Byrne and Julie Klages / recording chiefs: Robert Fine and Jack Andrews / engineers: George Piros and John Johnson).
The interior panels of the gatefold jacket contain authoritative liner notes by F.B. Weille, printed in English only. Art direction was supervised by Charles E. Murphy.

This particular issue – with the box and booklet – will weigh over 600 g. This means that outside of Europe the cost for shipping is about $22 USD, and that is just for standard airmail. Certified airmail (with a tracking number) costs $25 USD.
Those in doubt can visit the Spanish postal website (Correos.com), which is available in English. Although this listing states “free” shipping, it is not really free, of course. I have to pay for shipping like everyone else.

CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the still-sealed jacket is near-MINT. There is minor creasing to the rear panel, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears virtually as new. There are no owners' markings, bends, seamsplits, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy. Overall, this is a truly fine collector's copy.
The condition of the 2 LPs is MINT throughout – these are pristine, still-sealed LPs – the ideal collector's copies.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
