Description

Original 1972 U.K. Double Gatefold Sleeve Green & Orange ATLANTIC pressing of Stephen Stills ‘Manassas’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Atlantic Records K 60021).  I believe this is the 1st Pressing of this (the matrixes read ‘K 60021 A1/B1/C1/D1’) and the labels are Green & Orange which is correct for the period (it should be noted these are decent heavy vinyl pressings).  The sleeve states it is distributed by ‘Kinney Record Group Ltd’ and was made by ‘Tinsley  Robor Group Ltd.’.  This retains the quite frankly massive poster which features images of all the members of the Manassas band.  This is my personal copy of this great record and it has never seen heavy play.  I’ll grade each of the records separately as I believe they’ve seen a differential level of play.  Grading under an intense light there are a very limited number of hairline scratches visible on the first record but no marks of substance (which can be seen in normal daylight or which can be felt).  I’d be surprised if this record had been played more than once or twice.  The first record is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  I’d say the second record (‘The Wilderness’ & ‘Consider’) has seen a little more play than the first.  I should note that on Side One (‘The Wilderness’) there is a spindle drag on the label which has resulted in a tiny loss of print (about the size of a pen nib).  If you look really hard under an intense light there are more hairline scratches visible than the first record but this record has still not seen heavy play and is graded as being in EXCELLENT condition.  Again, there are no marks of substance.  The gatefold sleeve is a stunning example which really doesn’t look more than 40 years old.  It’s appearance is vivid as a result of there having been virtually no loss of print and clearly there has been no discolouration.  It is obvious that it hasn’t seen much handling.  Each of the corners displays a little fraying and the two opening edge corners have perhaps seen the lightest of knocks.  The inside of the gatefold sleeve is needless to say immaculate.  There is a tiny amount of grubbiness on the bottom of the sleeve on the front but no indication of ring-wear whatsoever.  There are a couple of creases near the opening edge of the sleeve which result from the sleeve being gripped between the fingertips whilst the vinyl is removed.  There are also a limited number of impressions in the soft cardboard which are just about visible if you angle the sleeve under an intense light.  The sleeve is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition and displays no major flaws.  Like I say above – You wouldn’t think it was as old as it is.  The poster is made of quite a thin paper and accordingly it displays all evidence of handling with ease.  What I mean by this is that where the poster has been held it has bent around the fingertips without quite creasing the paper.  Crucially the poster has never been attached to a wall but it has obviously got caught in the sleeve at some point as it has one large crease which as it is folded many times over is visible in a number of places once the poster is unfolded (if this makes sense).  The poster is graded as being in EXCELLENT condition.

Final Remarks

A really great example of this great album.  Nice to find it with a poster which hasn’t graced a wall.  Please check my other auctions for a copy of the second Manassas album ‘Down The Road’ as well as other Pop and Progressive Rock LPs in similarly tidy condition.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

General Conditions & Information

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself.

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.

Overseas Buyers

As noted above Overseas buyers are welcome.  If you want me to investigate potential postage costs in advance of the auction’s end then please feel free to contact me.
