Description

This is the classic, vintage, Stevie Wonder album -- Songs in the Key of Life. A fascinating presentation of the time, it was a double album with a 4-song extended play 45-rpm included (1976) Tamla Records were a subsidiary of Motown Records, interested in crossover hits right off the bat. Still a Barry Gordy initiative, it was founded in 1959. The groups included "Little Stevie Wonder", Nick & the Jaguars, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, the Miracles, and the Marvelettes, among many others. Tamla was finally absorbed by Motown proper by 1986.
This set is unique for the time: not only a double album with some of Wonder's most memorable tunes, but an added extended play set in a 45 size/format. The 3 vinyl pieces are in good condition, very small smudges and cross track marks notable. The EP includes a 45-rpm "rosette", an insert for playing it on a 33-rpm turntable. The vinyl sleeves are present, except for the EP. The famous sepia-toned lyrics booklet is included and is in very good condition. The album cover is largely intact with very small separations, crushes, and stray marks (noted in photos). The vinyl friction shadow is noted to obverse and reverse of each cover leaf.
PLEASE NOTE: We have had questions about the sides numbering system ( i.e., First vinyl piece has a "side one" and a "side four", and the second vinyl has a "side two" and a "side three". (!)) Those of us experienced in playing the entire album (with a turntable that has an "auto-spindle" device) in one sitting, know that you stack both vinyl pieces: "two" on top, "one" on bottom. "one" finishes, "two" drops into place. Then, after "two" finishes, one can flip the whole stack onto the auto spindle to get "four" on top and "three" on the bottom. The album then finishes in order.
Playlist: Side One--Love's in Need of Love Today//Have a Talk with God//Village Ghetto Land//Contusion Is//Sir Duke.               Side Two--I Wish//Knocks Me Off My Feet//Pastime Paradise//Summer Soft Ordinary Pain.               Side Three--Isn't She Lovely//Joy Inside My Tears//Black Man               Side Four--Ngicuela--Es Una Historia--I Am Singing//If It's Magic//As//Another Star EP (Bonus Record)  (1)--Saturn//Ebony Eyes  (2)--All Day Sucker//Easy Goin' Evening (My Mama's Call)
This is the quintessential Stevie Wonder double album that has great, memorable tunes associated with this artist. Amongst musicians, "Sir Duke" and Isn't She Lovely" alone, are considered the essential "jam tracks" for any 70's improvisation.
