Description

Baron Elmo proudly presents an art-damaged feast of words, music and ideas from a plethora of cultural envelope-pushers: Sugar, Alcohol & Meat: The Dial-A-Poem Poets, a double LP released in 1980 by Giorno Poetry Systems, now long unavailable. The GPS label was founded by John Giorno over three decades ago to document the works of the underground poetry scene. At this task, they succeeded admirably, releasing more than twenty albums of audacious, uncompromised soundworks that would have otherwise never been preserved for posterity... including precious hours of William S. Burroughs readings. The two records you’ll find inside the jacket of Sugar, Alcohol & Meat are packed with nearly 120 minutes of material (almost half an hour per side!), composed and performed by some of the boldest artistic wordsmiths of the day. The bulk of this album is spoken material, although music does rear its head here and there. There is enough food for thought here to keep your brain snacking happily for eons. This album has been out of print for many years and has never been issued on CD. Both records and the cover show slight wear, but are in great shape.
