Here offered for auction is an original 1972 copy of The Peddlers' magnum opus on the Philips' label - and their masterpiece.

This is a scarce LP that is hard to find in decent shape - if at all. It’s a highly original album that spawned the chillout and lounge sound - decades later. Way ahead of its time, it’s so much more than the feeble "chillout" label - terrific playing, great sound and simply marvellous dynamics.

A must-have record for anyone's collection.

Why then am I selling it ? Simply because in my quest for a better copy I recently found and bought another one and can’t justify keeping three copies. All of my copies are excellent and my latest acquisition is superb, so I am now in a position to sell my second one, having sold the first.

I’d describe it as excellent. While it’s not perfect - there is some noise at the beginning of each side (so typical of 60s/70s LPs from poor handling ), but it then settles down and gets on with the business of reproducing sublime music. There is the odd pop and crackle here and there but nothing major and definitely not :

Any deep scratches

Any jumps

Any skips

Any sticks

Any repetitive and annoying ticks from deeper hairlines*

An excellent copy, therefore and rarely found in this condition. This was a 'keeper' for me until an even better copy turned up yesterday, but there is not that much to choose between them.

I also own the recent and expensive reissue and while glad to have it, it certainly does not have the presence and dynamics of an original.

The sleeve is in good shape. Please examine the photos - the all-black design was never a great idea as it shows off ringwear but as you can see, it’s survived almost 50 years quite well.

I have given this copy a listen at realistic volume today and made some notes. It really is a very fine copy with the minimum of surface noise, crackle or other unwanted sounds. There is occasionally the odd minor pop, as you would expect from a 48 year old LP.

*However , playing it louder revealed a short-lived and very slight repetitive tick, contrary to what I’d originally written. This is on the track on Side Two, « A Year And A Day ». It’s very short, very light, does not intrude and is barely noticeable.

Note too, that this is a very early pressing; the inner bag has a date of 04/72 (whereas my latest copy is 09/72).
