Description
This is a rare, original pressing of Sun Ra and his Intergalactic Research Arkestra Space Probe on the blue and white ankh-logo labels of El Saturn 527 (mx 14200A/14200B). The playing surface of Side A is immaculate, while Side B has a light paper scuff and a single inaudible handling mark; both surfaces have a high luster; perhaps played once or twice. There is no known commercial art cover for Space Probe: all covers are either generic utility or of the unique, hand-made variety. This cover is of the latter category: a blue utility cover on which a hand-colored photo of the band in performance has been attached, then covered with a textured laminate. When moved from side to side or up and down, the laminated gives the cover a strange psychedelic appearance. These hand-made covers were created by band members during bus tours. This one is in excellent condition. Personnel includes John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, and Pat Patrick.
