This is the classic Syd Barrett bootleg, or "Sid Barret" as his name is misspelt on the sleeve. I bought this back in the day from a record shop in London that soldbootlegs under the counter. The guy who owned was heavily into Syd and told me it was just in. But I couldn't tell if this is the first or second pressing. Fantastic sleeve of course.
Having lived in London for many years, I have come across numerous rock stars out and about, the Stones, most of the punk mob, the Britpop mob etc. but Syd was the very first. Barely into our teens, in June 1974, a friend and I travelled to London and he insisted we see the sights so we ended up at Harrods. Right inside the entrance,we spotted Syd. This was just two months after Nick Kent had published his legendary/notorious article about Syd in New Musical Express, sparking a massive cult around him. For us, it was like spotting Howard Hughes. I guess I was the braver one. I went up to Syd and asked him for his autograph. Syd looked bewildered, stared blankly into the air for a good few seconds andquietly mumbled "no". He stood still for a few seconds and then suddenly dashed towards the food hall. By then, he had left celebrity and stardom behind. It seems Harrods was a regular haunt for Syd. Over the years I have heard of others who saw him there during that period.
I recorded this to cassette after I bought it so it has been played only a few times.
