London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pierre Monteux.
RCA VICTOR Living Stereo LSC-2281.
The LP is in VG/VG+ condition overall.
Side 1. Some faint surface noise which comes in small patches, but was mostly only noticeable in the quietest of moments, though there is a short passage about ¾ of the way through which is a little louder, but which didn't bother me particularly, and it fades out. There are some quiet pops/ticks and I also heard a couple of short faint rep ticks in the cadenza. The Sound is truly amazing! Bright, luminous and incredibly present. It's like having Szeryng in your living room! There are quite a few marks on the record surface, but despite this side one plays very well, and it may well improve with a proper clean.
Side 2. There is surface 'crackle' at the beginning of the slow mvt, and a repetitive tick which is noticeable but quite short. There are some patches of repetitive static noise which fade away. There are quite a few pops/ticks, and 2 short double ticks later in the movement. Despite this the recorded sound is still wonderful, and for me it was still a pleasure to listen to. The 3rd mvt was much better. There are still a few pops/ticks, but nothing got in the way of my listening pleasure. The cover is in VG+/EX condition. The front picture is clean and clear. There is some splitting on the top and bottom edges and some peeling at the left hand bottom corner. Some slight marks on the back and one small stain.
I have spent quite a bit of time describing this record as I have been informed that it is quite collectible. I would say that this is not a copy for a serious audiophile collector who wants perfect blemish free vinyl, but otherwise I would highly recommend it as I was really blown away by the sound quality. There are some problems here and there, mostly in the slow mvt, but overall the quality is still very good and I loved it!! The cover itself is a joy to look at.
This LP comes from a large collection of records owned by a retired music professor that I am selling on his behalf. There are some gems in the collection which I will post for auction soon. I do no grade the records visually, I listen to them in their entirety and try to give as accurate description of the condition as I can.
