Description

THE TADD DAMERON ORCHESTRA  'Fontainbleau'

The all-too brief life of Tadd Dameron, as both a composer and arranger, provided modern jazz with some of its most memorable and original themes. Largely remembered as an arranger Dameron is a much under, who stands at the fulcrum of modern jazz, between swing, cool and bebop. All the compositions here are his own, and reveal that inate swing that was his trademark. His signature piece, Fontainbleau, is his last fine set, before prison ended his career. The playing is bright, uncluttered and alert with Kenny Dorham particulary playing clean, elegant trumpet on "Fontainbleau" and Cecil Payne's baritone lending great depth to the ensemble

Kenny Dorham, Sahib Shihab, Joe Alexander, Cecil Payne, Henry Coker, Tadd Dameron, John Simmons, Shadow Wilson
