TALKING HEADS Stop Making Sense 1984 Sire Sealed Jonathan Demme Film 25121-1 M

The soundtrack to Jonathan Demme's 1984 concert film is one of the most celebrated live albums in rock history.

Recorded at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood in December 1983, it captures Talking Heads at the peak of their powers — David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison joined by Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry, and Ednah Holt.

The set builds from Byrne alone onstage with a beatbox for "Psycho Killer" to a nine-piece band by the end. Side One runs through "Swamp," "Slippery People," "Burning Down the House," and "Girlfriend Is Better." Side Two closes with "Once in a Lifetime," "Life During Wartime," and "Take Me to the River."

This is an original U.S. first pressing — the Special Limited Edition package on Sire Records (25121-1), issued simultaneously with the film's release in 1984. It is the version that came with the 20-page booklet featuring photos and drawings by David Byrne from the stage production storyboards.

Mastered at STERLING Sound, New York, by Jack Skinner and Ted Jensen. Jensen joined Sterling in 1976 — his first year there he mastered the Eagles' Hotel California and Billy Joel's The Stranger. He was promoted to Chief Mastering Engineer at Sterling in 1984, the same year this record was cut. He has received multiple Grammy nominations and won for Norah Jones' Come Away with Me.

Pressed during the original 1984 run at either Allied Record Company or Specialty Pressing, Los Angeles — both plants are documented across variants of this pressing. The specific plant for this copy cannot be confirmed without opening the seal. Plating by Sheffield Lab Matrix (SLM). Label is the standard Sire white label with black print, correct for the 1984 U.S. pressing.

This copy is still sealed in its original factory-perforated shrink wrap — the booklet has never been opened, the vinyl never played. The hype sticker on the shrink reads: "Special Limited Edition Package / Includes 20-Page Booklet Featuring / Photos and Drawings by David Byrne / from Stage Production Storyboards."
