LP : Ted Curson Quartet ?– Urge

First Japanese issue on FONTANA, SFON-7099, made by Victor Records, Yokohama. This is NOT a 1980ies-reissue but the earliest Japanese edition (probably made in the 1970ies): deep-grooved blue label with silver lettering, heavy cardboard-cover, linernotes in Japanese on the back. The Japanese edition has a front-painting by Marte Röling, who did ca. 14 covers for mid-60ies FONATANA releases ft. modern jazz-sounds (John Tchicai, Marion Brown, New York Art Quartet etc.), some of wich were only used for the Japanese issues meanwhile the Dutch releases had photos of the artists on the front. The T.Curson/Urge-LP is one of these, it was released in Holland with a different cover showing a photo of T.Curson on the front. Recorded on May 13, 1966 in Baarn, Netherlands. On this date the pianoless quartet performs great deep jazz with a modal and even spiritual vein.

You can listen to “ Ted Curson Quartet Cinq Quatre “ on youtube.

Line-up: Ted Curson/trumpet & pocket trumpet - Booker Ervin/tenrosax - Jimmy Woode/bass - Edgar Bateman/drums

Tracks: side 1: Roy's Boys - You Don't Know What Love Is - Cinq (Civis) Quatre side 2: Musis Sacrum - The Leopard - Latino

Condition: The record looks & plays in mint-, top.

The heavy cover shows just slightest shelfwear, bottom-seam & spine are intact without any rub, the top-seam is intact with 2 little spots showing rub, very minimal wear in the right corners, front & back are absolutely fine; overall ex+.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
