TELARC AUDIOPHILE VINYL STRAVINSKY, FIREBIRD/BORODIN PRINCE IGOR EXCERPTS DG-10039
TAS RECOMMENDATION. PART OF THE FAMOUS HARRY PEARSON LIST
A HIGHLY ACCLAIMED RECORD: "Robert Shaw ... achieves an atmospheric and vivid reading of Stravivsky's famous suite. The Round dance of the princesses is played very gently to maximize the shock of the entry of Kaschei. The very wide dynamic range of the digital recording achieves the most dramatic impact both here and in the closing pages of the finale. With its spectacular coupling this issue is disigned to appeal to those wanting to show off their reproducer and that it will certainly do." p.898, The Penguin Guide 1986 "Telarc digital recording of the Polovtsian dances a full recommendation... The entry of the bass drum is riveting and the closing section very exciting. The vivid sound-balance is equally impressive in the Overture... Robert Shaw's overall direction is thoroughly musical." p.191, The Penguin Guide 1986
