TELEVISION MARQUEE MOON - FIRST UK EDITION: BUTTERFLY LABEL & PRINTED LYRICS
For sale here is an original 1977 UK vinyl edition of the ground breaking "Marquee Moon" LP by Television, featuring Tom Verlaine.
While often considered a seminal work to come out of the New York punk scene of the late 1970s, the album differs from conventional punk in it's clean, textured guitar-based arrangements and extended improvisation. As a result it is often cited as important to the development of post-punk and New Wave genres. I bought this album in the UK on it's release and have owned it ever since. The record has the early butterfly label and a printed card inner sleeve featuring a photo of the band on one side and lyrics on the reverse.
The LP is on the Elektra record label, catalogue number K 52046. The inscriptions in the run-out grooves read "K-52046-A-1" and "AL" on the first side with "K-52046-B-2" and "ALLEN" on the second side.
The vinyl is in terrific condition, looking virtually unplayed with only minimal surface marking. There is one tiny scratch at around three quarters of the way through side one track four resulting in a barely audible soft 'click' for about ten to fifteen revolutions of the disc. Rating: "Excellent-'.
The thick card outer sleeve has retained a high gloss sheen. There is some very light scuffing around the extreme edges, a small 'chip' off the gloss at the front top right, just a few spine stress marks and a minor crease at the back top left. There is almost no ringmarking. Rating: "Very Good/Excellent".
The card inner sleeve has slight ringmarks and just a little surface marking. Rating: "Excellent-".
