Description

TEN YEARS AFTER "Cricklewood Green" 1st PRESS + POSTER
1970 UK DERAM, Nr MINT G&L Gatefold, SUPERB AUDIO
TEN YEARS AFTER
Cricklewood Green

HERE WE HAVE AN EXCELLENT, UK DERAM (SML 1065 ) FIRST PRESSING (April 1970) OF TEN YEARS AFTER'S TREMENDOUS "Cricklewood Green" LP, COMPLETE WITH THE ELUSIVE AND INCREDIBLY SCARCE BLACK AND WHITE ALVIN LEE POSTER ONLY EVER ISSUED WITH A LIMITED NUMBER OF FIRST ISSUE COPIES
THE ALBUM IS PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WITH DEEP CUT GROOVES WHICH DELIVER OUTSTANDING SHARP, CRISP AND CRYSTAL CLEAR AUDIO REPRODUCTION (which these 60s Decca pressings are rightly so famous for!!) AND HAS THE FIRST ISSUE RED/WHITE DERAM LABELS WITH THE FIRST PRESS MATRIX: XZAL-9583.P-1W / XZAL-9584.P-1W WITH 1/1 MOTHERS

THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, FIRST ISSUE, SOFT BACKED GATEFOLD "Sleeve printed and made in England by Garrod and Lofthouse International Limited.” (with the ''indicator hole'' at the back through which a corner of the inner sleeve shows: red for mono and blue for stereo. Later copies omit this) AND COMES COMPLETE WITH RARE POSTER AND THE ORIGINAL POLY LINED, BLUE STEREO DECCA COMPANY INNER SLEEVE

AN EXCELLENT COPY OF A TREMENDOUS BRIT PSYCH/BLUES CLASSIC. THIS COPY HAS BEEN WELL PLAYED (as indicated by the spindle marks on the labels) AND WELL LOVED OVER THE YEARS BUT THE AUDIO REPRODUCTION STILL REMAINS INCREDIBLY IMPRESSIVE - FANTASTIC SOUND, AND THE LP PLAYS EXTREMELY WELL THROUGHOUT (see detailed audio assessment below)

Cricklewood Green provides the best example of Ten Years After's recorded sound. On this album, the band and engineer Andy Johns mix studio tricks and sound effects, blues-based song structures, a driving rhythm section, and Alvin Lee's signature lightning-fast guitar licks into a unified album that flows nicely from start to finish. Cricklewood Green opens with a pair of bluesy rockers, with "Working on the Road" propelled by a guitar and organ riff that holds the listener's attention through the use of tape manipulation as the song develops. "50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain" and "Love Like a Man" are classics of TYA's jam genre, with lyrically meaningless verses setting up extended guitar workouts that build in intensity, rhythmically and sonically. The latter was an FM-radio staple in the early '70s. "Year 3000 Blues" is a country romp sprinkled with Lee's silly sci-fi lyrics, while "Me and My Baby" concisely showcases the band's jazz licks better than any other TYA studio track, and features a tasty piano solo by Chick Churchill. It has a feel similar to the extended pieces on side one of the live album Undead. "Circles" is a hippie-ish acoustic guitar piece, while "As the Sun Still Burns Away" closes the album by building on another classic guitar-organ riff and more sci-fi sound effects.

Track Listing:
Side 1: Sugar The Road (3:46) / Working On The Road (4:15) / 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain (7:37) / Year 3,000 Blues (2:17)
Side 2: Me And My Baby (4:12) / Love Like A Man (7:13) / Circles (3:55) / As The Sun Still Burns Away (4:42)

LABELS: The 1st Red/White Deram labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO marks/unwanted writing but do display quite a few spindle traces. The LP has obviously been well played but also very well cared for and judging by the impressive sound quality, only ever played on high-end equipment
VINYL Visual: The surfaces are CLEAN and BRIGHT with just some light marks which have no major audio consequence
VINYL Audio: The audio delivery is OUTSTANDING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, CRISP and RICH. There are NO jumps, NO sticks and NO prolonged scratches. There is the occasional minor click/pop with 3 more pronounced pops at the beginning of Side Two but certainly nothing which I found AT ALL intrusive on play-grading this OUTSTANDING piece of work otherwise, the LP plays to a very high standard with SUPERB clarity, NO discernible groove-wear and NO distortion. Must be graded EXCELLENT for audio and NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page)
SLEEVE: The 1st issue soft backed gatefold is in STUNNING condition. Practically MINT apart form a couple of tiny marks on the inside (see pics) otherwise, STUNNING CONDITION
THE POSTER IS ALSO IN SUPERB CONDITION WITH VERY LITTLE EVIDENCE OF IT EVER BEING HANDLED

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE RECORD, SLEEVE & POSTER
I HAVE UPLOADED AS MANY PICTURES AS I CAN BUT I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SUPPLY ANY ADDITIONAL PHOTOS ON REQUEST
THIS REALLY IS AN EXCELLENT COPY OF A MUCH SOUGHT AFTER TITLE ESPECIALLY AS A *COMPLETE* UK VERY FIRST 1970 PRESSING
PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE RARE AND COLLECTABLE VINYL
AND PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUERIES YOU MAY HAVE
THANKS FOR LOOKING, CHEERS
