ORIGINAL UK MONO LP IN VERY NEAR MINT CONDITION
this is by far the rarest mono LP of their first five UK releases, all of which were issued with the mono / stereo option - the self-titled 1st album is fast becoming quite rare in mono (this is mostly a result of much lower sales of their debut compared to subsequent albums - and therefore the stereo version is probably now equally, if not even more, scarce) - the 2nd LP ‘Undead’ however, is very common in both mono and stereo because of a massive leap in sales enjoyed by the group - their hard-earned popularity and notoriety having suddenly increased, seemingly by word of mouth, almost overnight - the 3rd album ‘Stonedhenge’ is really very rare in mono (mainly due to low sales thanks to the highly experimental nature of the record) - while even the 4th ‘Ssssh!’ is now becoming pretty scarce in mono, despite truly massive sales achieved primarily by its stereo counterpart (by then, very few of the ‘heads’ of 1969 would have been happy to be seen in possession of what were now perceived to be somewhat outmoded mono records) - all of which brings us to their 5th LP and ‘Cricklewood Green’ - now this one is virtually NEVER seen in mono! - the mono option had all but disappeared from the scene by 1970 due to an almost universal lack of demand - many of the major British record companies had long since discontinued the expensive and time consuming practise of recording and releasing both mono and stereo pressings - however, in typically conservative style, the Decca group of companies persisted for just a little longer than most others - although this LP in mono is still mighty RARE! - in nearly three decades of buying, selling, trading, collecting and owning countless Ten Years After records I have only seen the UK mono issue once before (it is currently in my collection) - a truly rare piece indeed - the large poster of Alvin Lee accompanying some copies of the album seems likely to have only been included with a moderate number of the early stereo pressings - ok, while ‘Cricklewood Green’ is arguably not perhaps their best LP, it is nevertheless an important part of the long Alvin Lee / TYA story and, in absurdly rare mono, as well as such fabulous condition, this constitutes an indispensable Ten Years After relic! - it is likely I will be listing mono issues of their other LPs at some point in the future but I have just the one spare copy of this prize and it will not be relisted - THE RECORD IS NEAR MINT WITH AS NEW GLOSS - JUST A FEW LIGHT SURFACE HAIRLINES AND INSIGNIFICANT PAPER SCUFFS - THE BROWN AND WHITE MONO LABELS ARE CLEAN, BRIGHT AND SHARP WITH ONLY MINIMAL SPINDLE MARKS - THE GATEFOLD COVER IS IN SUPERB VERY NEAR MINT CONDITION - includes the absolutely original and correct 2-70 (February 1970) mono-designated, poly-lined inner in (creamy white and rich pink) mint condition - there is a quite reasonable reserve for this extremely rare and highly collectable artefact - the eight classic tracks are of course:
