Description
Dick Kent and His Band play "Clementine" on Gennett 6341. Recorded in Richmond on December 28, 1927. It's a hot, modernistic arrangement with fine solos on baritone sax and alto sax, drum breaks, and an alto sax obligato behind the vocal. Dick Kent played sax with Emil Seidel, and I believe the personnel is drawn from Seidel's band.
On the other side, Kibbler's Kollegians play a respectible "Good News," recorded in Richmond on December 19, 1927. There are short solos and breaks.
So that's the Good News. The Bad News is that this record is in G+ condition on the "Clementine" side and G condition on the "News" side. There is a tiny edge bite nowhere near the grooves. On the "News" side only, a tight half-inch crack from rim into the first few grooves ticks very briefly after the music starts and then disappears.
Despite these flaws, there is still enjoyment to be had. To hear this copy of "Clementine," unfiltered, click here: https://clyp.it/af4xp0uu?token=e7c5d32cae916d550efc618de846a501 . If you listen all the way through, the musicianship will impress you.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
