Noland attended the same school as Buddy Holly, and like Holly, most of his Brunswick records were produced by Norman Petty in Clovis, New Mexico

 Of the assorted Texas rockabillies who plied their wares in Norman Petty’s Clovis, NM, studio, the least heralded is Terry Noland. Much of this has to do with Noland jumping ship early in the ball game from Petty’s direction to head to New York City with teen stardom waiting in the wings. He cut sides there with Tonight Show musical director Milton DeLugg swinging the baton and little else, jumping from the back-to-back West Texas rockabilly sound of "Ten Little Women" and the title cut to lightweight pop fluff like "Puppy Love," "Teenage Teardrops," and "Let Me Be Your Hero." That Noland (real name Terry Noland Church) adapted well to this watered-down approach -- even writing the majority of pop confections -- has certainly diminished his rockabilly credentials in the eyes of most hardcore collectors. This is regrettable, simply because Noland laid down some incredible sides during his quest for the diamond ring and the solid gold Cadillac. As is the case with many before and after him, his best stuff is also his earliest. But after jumping ship from Petty’s Clovis rockabilly operation, his sound and style became increasingly watered down. After a few more singles and an album that went nowhere, Noland hung up his guitar. Returning back to Texas, he started dabbling in real estate, eventually moving to Oklahoma and becoming the largest and most successful land developer in that state.

I purchased these 45s on eBay several years ago with the intention of matting them with autographs I have collected of the respective artists for display purposes. I was more interested in clean labels than impeccable vinyl though they frequently go hand-in-hand. I collected the respective artists’ first record, first chart hit, top selling hit, etc. The cost of matting, however, proved to be too high, and I had to give up on this project.

PLEASE NOTE:

I have never played any of these records.   I am not a dealer, but a collector attempting to pass my collection on to others.  I am not, by any means, an expert when it comes to grading.  What I can say is that these 45s have been inspected under a high intensity LED lamp.  Based on what others have told me, it seems to be the case that some 45s look better than they sound. Should you have a grading problem with any 45 you’ve purchased from me, simply let me know me and I will make it right.

ALL GRADING IS BASED SOLELY ON A VISUAL INSPECTION OF EACH 45

M = Absolutely new. If the 45 is not sealed, this rating is not used.   

NM = No visible flaws on the vinyl.  Label soiling and ring wear is negligible.

NM- or EX = Somewhere between VG+ and Near Mint. At most, 1 or 2 tiny and light hairlines or scuff lines.

VG+ = Vinyl has been well taken care of but will have a few very light hairlines or scuff lines. Maybe some other slight imperfections like a rub mark. There should be very little to no background/surface noise when playing this record.

VG = Vinyl will have several light scratches or hairlines that range from light to moderate. There may be background/surface noise while playing. Still a nice record but you might expect some crackles and pops.

VG- = Somewhere between VG and G.

G = Vinyl will have many scratches and scuffs with significant surface noise upon playing. This type of scratches will be very evident but should not cause any skipping during play.

Those 45s that needed it have been cleaned with “Lasermedia VNC-8 Professional Vinyal Record Cleaning Fluid.”
