LOU DONALDSON Lush Life TEST PRESSING Blue Note 1967 RVG Vinyl Record
Lou Donaldson's Lush Life is the sort of mysterious lost session that inexplicably fell through the cracks. I have read that the delay was due to the success of Donaldson's "Alligator Bugaloo".
This January 1967 session, mastered by Rudy Van Gelder, remained unreleased until 1980 when it came out in Japan under a different title, Sweet Slumber. The USA release, Lush Life, didn’t appear until 1980 Japan and 1982 internationally.
Donaldson is joined by Freddie Hubbard, Garnett Brown, Jerry Dodgion, Wayne Shorter, Pepper Adams, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, and Al Harewood, performing arrangements by Duke Pearson.

Test pressings are rare and are often limited to no more than twenty copies. They offer superior sound compared to commercially released vinyl records.
The catalog number is BNST 84254; consistent with the label and vinyl. We have kept the original white sleeve (and will send it with the vinyl) but the record is currently housed in an archival quality sleeve.
The matrix run out reads (A SIDE): BLUENOTE BNST 84254.A. VAN GELDER
Side B is essentially the same.
This record was purchased by us many years ago and has been in our garage for the last 33 or more years. The record has been cleaned (ultrasonic tank). It remains shiny and has absolutely no visible scratches.
A visual grade on this recording would be somewhere between VG++ or NM. From a friend who is a collector who listened to the album: "Audio quality is really good too. A few crackles and pops but considering how old it is is sounds real good. Someone is going to be really happy with this."
The performances are beautiful and mellow. Perfect for that glass of whiskey and cigar (???? you know who you are :D) or even a romantic evening for two. You will want to play this record over and over again. It's that good.
