Original United States pressing of this very hard to find record on the tiny Royce label out of Central City, Kentucky.  The 5 Embers formed in Owensboro, Kentucky in the mid fifties and recorded their debut (and only) 45 we are offering here in 1959.  Back then, for $300 you could record two sides for Royce Records and receive 300 copies of the 45.  The copy we are offering here is one of those 300 copies.

The 5 Embers consisted of brothers Charles and Richard Brown, Raymond Johnson, Mel Smith, and Delmar “Sonny” Rates.  “I’m Free” has an up-tempo sound with beautiful group harmony, with the lead vocals by Richard Brown.  “My Fragile Heart” has a haunting melody, with lead vocals by Charles Brown.   

VINYL: This record has lots of visible scuffing, surface marking and scratching.  It also has one heat marking area near the outer edge.  We listened to both sides and it does play all the way through on our medium weight tracking turntable.  This record grades G.
