AN ARCHIVE COPY!1965!   ORIGINAL UK PRESSING  CAT NO.LK 4700  (((MONO))) UNBOXED DECCA LABELS! STUNNING  MINT,MINT ,MINT AUDIO QUALITY!  (One play by me only)

''1'' to ''1'' MOTHERS! EARLIEST -3A -4A MATRIX ENDINGS!

Another from my personal collection! This is a very very special copy. I have taken time to carefully describe as fully and honestly as possible , all aspects of this album!

Purchased from an old lady who subsequently had purchased this album sealed from new,, incredibly, over 40 years ago, and had never broke the seal let alone ever played this vinyl! I took some big descisions, one week ago I had decided to open this completely sealed album for the first time ever, to confirm that this was indeed the original and early, Unboxed Decca variation. ( sealed copies are okay for those who wish to look at records but for me the important factor is that I play my records and the audio quality is my prime interest rather than rarety factor) My next descision was to play test the vinyl 'one time only' on my Garard turntable using my dedicated mono cartridge. Well, I have done this, and I can confirm that this vinyl not only looks as new but plays as new. This looks and plays as good as it could possibly get. As near as Mint as possible,, one play only in over 40 years!!  Absolutely stunningly vibrant mint audio quality throughout,, you will not find a better looking or audio sounding copy of this awesome album!      Original early UK pressing of the '1965' Debut album by  Van Morrison's band  'Them'  This is totaly complete and totaly original with the original Decca mono record sleeve as new, without splits stains or tares! The original James Upton Laminated front cover is awesome super glossy in appearence also very near new condition apart from a  single crease at the front, bottom right corner only and minor corner bumping to mention. My next big decision was to very carefully remove the shrinkwrap in order to take photos to show the true awesome top condition of this cover and then carefully replace the shrinkwrap! This is an archive copy,, you will never need to upgrade from this copy, vinyl as new genuine one play only, impossible to ever find like this after 46 years !

The audio was perfect on my systems,, cristal clear and very vibrant ,Play tested at loud volume prior to listing using a dedicated mono cartridge! Any static was minimal. The audio was so vibrant on my systems I have graded the audio as good as it gets in my opinion!

The Angry Young Them is the first album from the Northern Irish rock and roll group Them. The band's lead singer and songwriter was Van Morrison. In the U.S., the album was released as Them with partly different tracks!!.

As with most Decca releases of the period, the name of the group was conspicuously absent from the front cover and on the back of the LP they were introduced as The Angry Young Them with an essay on this theme declaring: "These five young rebels are outrageously true to themselves. Defiant! Angry! Sad! They are honest to the point of insult!"

Six of the songs on the album were Morrison originals including the famous garage band anthem "Gloria". Another song on the album, "Mystic Eyes", was a spontaneous creation that came out of the band just "busking around" in Morrison's words and after seven minutes of instrumental playing he impulsively threw in the words of a song he had been working on.

The lengthy versions of "Gloria" that the band performed at the Maritime and the ten minute recording of "Mystic Eyes" have never surfaced. All that is left of the "Mystic Eyes" performance is the little over 2 1/2 minutes on the album that remained after splicing out from the beginning and ending. "You Just Can't Win" was a Dylan inspired song about a gold digger, set in specific places in London such as Camden Town!!.

"Little Girl" was about a boy's obsession with a fourteen year old school girl. (An earlier take on a Lord's Taverners charity album had been deleted when a four-letter was heard in the fade out at the end.)

"If You And I Could Be As Two" starts with a spoken introduction by Morrison with an aggressive Irish accent. Three Bert Berns originals were included and a cover of John Lee Hooker's "Don't Look Back" was considered by Morrison to be his finest vocal to date!!

Side 1

  1. "Mystic Eyes" (Van Morrison) – 2:41
  2. "If You and I Could Be As Two" (Morrison) – 2:53
  3. "Little Girl" (Morrison) – 2:21
  4. "Just a Little Bit" (Ralph Bass, Buster Brown, John Thornton, Ferdinand "Fats" Washington) – 2:21
  5. "Don't Look Back" (John Lee Hooker) – 3:23
  6. "I Gave My Love a Diamond" (Bert Berns, Wes Farrell) – 2:48
  7. "Gloria" (Morrison) – 2:38

The vinyl

This lays perfectly flat on the turntable! Important note! this is the original thick and chunky type of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings these have deeper grooves than later reisues and are much more robust, The vinyl is as good as new condition never been played before I play tested the vinyl one time only!

On initial inspection this looks superb retaining its glossy apearance from new! Any marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would  be sleeve removal only, but I can't see any marks at all the playing surface visably is near as mint in my opinion.

The Audio

In my opinion this plays with true excellence! I played this through one time only prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system using a dedicated mono cartridge! The audio is cristal clear and exceedingly vibrant throughout! This plays without any signs of distortion  no clicks, ticks or pops during the audio at all, just what you would expect from a vinyl that had never been played before! The audio isas good as it could get in my opinion,  Truely awesome  bassey feel only found on these earliest pressings in my opinion due to the charactoristics!,, Pressed from early masters featureing ''1'' to ''1'' mother stampers, also the materials used to press these early pressings are more thicker and heavier with deeper grooves produce the best for audio quality available on vinyl format.  I would class myself as highly critical please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio quality as good as it gets in my opinion! Audio graded as good as mint on my systems, never heard a better sounding copy!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd very light static  (not consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 1st press that is over 40 years old. Genuine one play only, unbeleivable over 40 years old like this!

The labels

These are the original 'Unboxed Decca' labels (only early UK press) These labels are like new looks totaly unplayed in my opinion! Unbeleivably rare to find like this! there is no ware around the spindle hole this is perfectly round!

The record sleeve

This is the original  poly lined Mono Decca sleeve. Again like new, no splits or tares!  This is the original. The record is now stored seperately from the sleeve!

The cover

This is the original 1st issue James Upton printed (England) cover! Laminated front only, absolutely super super glossy appearence unbelievabale like this! This was completely sealed with shrink wrap until one week ago when I decided to remove the vinyl by sliting the shrink at the opening edge, I carefully removed the shrink one time only to take photos and then replaced the shrink.! The cover has no splits or tares. There is a crease at the bottom right corner to mention and any storage ware or minor bumping is realy only noticable if scrutinised in my opinion. very slight laminate lift at the spine end only super glossy in appearence like glass! No real ringware, if there is any, it is extreemely minimal barely noticable unless looked for! The rear is extreemely clean in fact there is none of the normal yellowing or grubbyness usualy seen on these light whyspy creases only at the rear, but this is so clean never breathed in air for over 40 years unbelevable like this!

I have never seen a copy as good as this archive copy!
