THIS IS THE NEW ZEALAND [and worldwide only pressing on vinyl] ORIGINAL PRESSING on FLYING NUN Records. IN SHRINK SINGLE COVER + INSERT + HYPE STICKER. The cover is in EX condition: normal wear and without any deterioration BUT light discolouration/wear on right corners (where missing shrink), left spine is fully readable, please for details see photos (with and without flashlight). The vinyl is in EX/NEAR MINT condition [barely played] and plays wonderfully.

THE BATS
New Zealand act featuring Robert Scott of the Clean, with a fresh take on garagey folk-rock that flirted with power pop. Another outgrowth of the seminal Clean, the Bats are an institution on the New Zealand music scene, their melancholy jangle pop sound and infectious melodies consistently defining the kiwi rock aesthetic at its very best. The Bats were formed in Christchurch in 1982 by Clean bassist Robert Scott, ex-Toy Love bassist Paul Kean, singer/multi-instrumentalist Kaye Woodward, and drummer Malcolm Grant; with Scott adopting lead vocal and guitar duties as well as serving as the Bats' chief songwriter, they issued their debut, By Night, in 1984, the first in a series of EPs that also included 1985's And Here Is 'Music for the Fireside'! and 1986's Made Up in Blue. (All three were subsequently collected as Compiletely Bats.)

It’s hard to decide which is more impressive, that at the time of their 2011 album, Free All the Monsters, the Bats had been been a band for nearly 30 years (with the same four members!) or that they sound almost exactly the same as they did on their first recordings. Yes, the record is much cleaner, but all the hallmarks of the Bats' sound are there: the close-knit guitar interplay between Robert Scott and Kaye Woodward, the way the duo's vocals fit together like puzzle pieces, Paul Kean’s melodic basslines, and the tightly propulsive drumming of Malcolm Grant. It’s a warm and inviting sound that feels as fresh as it did when they first came up with it in the early '80s...(AllMusic)
