THE BATTERED ORNAMENTS “Mantle-Piece” 1969 Harvest Records Prog Psych Original
1969/Canada/Harvest Records SKAO-422…..here’s a great copy of their second lp. The thick heavy gatefold cover is in VG to VG+ condition with light shelf/ring wear, some light staining on the white back and inner gatefold, split on inner gatefold at centre, some paper lifted on seam(see pics), light corner and seam wear, otherwise the cover is solid with no splits or delete. The heavy vinyl is in clean VG++ condition with a handful of light hairlines scuffs/scratches on each side. The record plays Excellent with a bit of minor light noise between the odd track and quiet spot. Excellent fidelity too! The deep groove labels are clean. Nice copy! The band's second LP, 1969's "Mantel Piece" was recorded Actually with Brown still in the line up (he's credited with writing or co-writing eight of the nine selections). Unfortunately, During the recording sessions, the dreaded specter of personality conflict reared it's ugly head. With Brown and Spedding Increasingly at odds musical, frustrations cam to a head the day before the band's appearance at The Rolling Stones' famed Hyde Park concert. In what amounted to a revolt, Brown was summarily fired, leaving the survivors to erase and rerecord his vocal tracks. Given Brown's rough hewn vocals Were always an acquired taste, Spedding proved more than the Competent replacement, turning in some surprisingly impressive performances. Musically The Set proved equally engaging.Exemplified by materials such s "Sunshades," "Late Into the Night" and the instrumental "Staggered", the album was every bit the eclectic to the debut. Jazz, rock, country, world beat early ... it's all here! Melodic, yet challenging, it's a great album! Highlights include the rollicking, pedal steel guitar propelled "Then I Must Go" and the freak out "Twisted Track".

MINT: as stated with no defects
NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean
EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much
VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition.
