Description
This is a nice copy of an obscure recording by The Beach Boys through the Veterans Administration: "Here's to Veterans." Not much information is available about this record, except that it was Program No. 866 in a series of LPs with a mixture of contemporary music and public services announcements targeting U.S. veterans.
On this program, the targeted public service announcement is "Change of Address," urging veterans to fill out change of address forms and contacting their local Veterans Affairs Office of their move. In between these announcements are 5 songs by the Beach Boys, each of which is introduced by Brian Wilson. These are not live performances, although there is an attempt to suggest as much (for example, Brian introduces "Ten Little Indians" by saying "Okay guys, let's do 'Ten Little Indians'"). The label indicates that the record is processed and pressed by Capitol Records, Inc.
Songs featured are "Surfin' Safari," "Ten Little Indians," "409," "Surfin'" and "Moon Dawg." Total running time is 14:30.
Because of this song line-up, my guess is that this record was released in late 1962 as all of the songs are taken from the band's debut LP, "Surfin' Safari" which was released in October of 1962.
The flip side of this LP is listed as Program No. 865 and features music by Henry Jerome's Brazen Brass with public service announcements about "Hospital Volunteers."
Record is in VG++ condition. A few light scuffs, and plays very well. High gloss. Clean labels. Comes in plain sleeve.
