The Beatles - 'Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You'. 45-R 4949
The Beatles 1962 UK 1st FACTORY SAMPLE DEMO pressing of 'Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You' 7" single. Released on the 5th October 1962, this also comes complete with the very rare and original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve which is in particularly nice condition.
These initial early factory sample pressings would have usually been given out to reviewers, radio stations or used as quality control within the pressing plant.
This particular copy was originally owned by ATV Music Publishing. ATV were a major player in 1960's British music who went on to buy Lennon and McCartney's 'Northern Songs' publishing company owning almost all of The Beatles back catalogue. The company was famously sold to Michael Jackson in 1985 very much to Paul McCartney's annoyance.
Released on the red Parlophone label both sides feature the 'Recording First Published 1962' text. The a-side features the embossed 'ZT' tax code dating it's production to October/November 1962 (a very early example as the tax code was changed in November 1962 to PT). 'FACTORY SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE' sticker on the 'Love Me Do' side and a 'PROPERTY OF ATV MUSIC LIBRARY' sticker to the 'P.S. I Love You' side. The original demo sleeve features a 'Carlton Television Limited' sticker (part of the ATV group).
A very rare and solid example of this early Beatles single. I also have a number of other ex ATV demo's listed, take a look.
The Matrix numbers are:
Side 1. 7XCE 17144-1N 1 T T ZT (indicating Ringo on drums and no tambourine version).
Side 2. 7XCE-17145-1N 1 H ZT
The vinyl is in VERY GOOD+ condition.
Both labels are in EXCELLENT condition. BUT have demo stickers as mentioned above and 'mc' written neatly.
The original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve is in EXCELLENT- condition. Light creasing.
