Description

The Beatles - 'The Beatles No. 1’ E.P. GEP 8883 NI
A real Beatles rarity here which is seldom seen. The Beatles 1963 1st NIGERIAN pressing of the ’The Beatles No. 1' E.P. This issue features a miss-spelling of ‘The Beatles’ on side one which instead credits the E.P to ’THE BAETLES’. It comes complete with the original Nigerian cover.
Released on the Parlophone label both sides have ‘The Parlophone Co Ltd’ rim print and also state ‘Made in Nigeria’ and ‘E.M.I (Nigeria) limited’. The catalogue number is the same as the UK issue with the addition of NI at the end.
The vinyl is housed within the original and correct sleeve. This visually looks identical to the 1963 UK sleeve with flipbacks on the back but on inspection the sleeve is much thinner than the UK issue. In addition, both sides of the sleeve are glossy unlike the UK sleeve which has a matt rear. The sleeve does state that it was made and printed in Great Britain but my guess is that it was actually made in Nigeria from the UK graphic set. The sleeve features a sticker on the back which states ‘KINGSWAY’ and series of numbers. A quick Google search shows that Kingsway is a Nigerian department store with the numbers probably being a reference code and the original price 14.6. These Nigerian pressings are very rare as very few were produced.
The matrix numbers are:
Side 1: 7TCE 764-1
Side 2: 7TCE 765-1
The vinyl is in VERY GOOD condition.
Both labels are in EXCELLENT/EXCELLENT+ condition.
The sleeve is in VERY GOOD+ condition.
