Description
First the background information - it was the German Polydor record label that first introduced the Beatles to an unsuspecting music world in the summer of 1961. History records that in June of 1961, the Beatles were given their break into the music industry backing British singer Tony Sheridan whose Elvis-like style appealed to the German public. Tony Sheridan had a big following in Germany and had a great talent to take recognizable standards and rearrange them with a "rock and roll" beat. Tony was going into the studio to record a selection of standards and needed a back up band. The Beatles were asked to be the back up band and the name The Beatles was dropped from the record label as it was considered too close to the German slang word "peedles" which was slang for the word penis. So The Beat Brothers was the name added under Tony's name and the rest as they say is history. It was from this session that everything started. Prior to March 1964, German singles on the Polydor label were issued with an orange label, with "Polydor" in a scroll logo at the top of the label and with stars above the Polydor logo. There are two versions of the My Bonnie pressing each with their own DISTINCTIVE record label and picture sleeve. The "rock" version was released in late 1961 and features the word "rock" underneath the title of "My Bonnie." This version has a slow introduction in German. The "twist" version has the word "twist" on the label but also has the introduction in English. The "twist" version was released in January, 1962. The picture sleeve to the "twist" version is the same as the "rock" version, except that the "twist" version has an additional rectangular box containing the word "twist." It should be noted that these picture sleeves are extremely fragile as the paper quality was quite low - not surprising there are not many exceptional examples left after 40 years. This record comes with original record sleeve,I challenge you to find one like this with original sleeve in this condition anywhere.I must sell so I can buy a digital recorder so I can record a demo.The record has a few surface scratches on The My Bonnie side,the other side looks to be in almost near mint condition.The sleeve is in great condition,no writing or wrinkles,creases,or marks of anykind.I bought this record from Germany.The record has no writing or marks of any kind also.I did some reasearch and found this site on the net.I dont know when the site was built,but it states this record is worth $500.http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/kirkland/266/btls/ger/singger.htm.Scroll down towards bottom.I accept pay pal,money orders,and checks.Checks will have to clear the bank before shipping.
