Description
The Beatles, Beatles For Sale, MONO PMC 1205, UK 1st Pressing
1964 was the height of Beatlemania following the release of their first two albums and their infamous appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.
After meeting Dylan in New York, the Beatles, particularly John, were inspired to make music with a country western twist.
The result was Beatles For Sale, and although it was released in the December it was the top selling album of 1964.
There are several features identifiable on this record which are unique to the first pressing, they are:
- Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve with 'outline' mono on the front;
- Tracing paper lined Emitex 'protect your records' die-cut inner sleeve;
- Matrix numbers XEX 503-3N & XEX 504-3N; and
- Black labels with Yellow parlophone logo and silver text.
The labels also feature:
- 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd' printed on the outer perimeter;
- 'Recording first published in 1964' to the left of the spindle hole; and
- 'Sold in the U.K. ...' underneath the Parlophone logo.
The condition of the record is as follows:
Sleeve: Very Good
Considering it’s age the sleeve looks great!
The front has very few blemishes and retains the original gloss sheen.
The laminate covering is in great shape with no splits and only very minor creasing around the edges.
Otherwise the rear and centrefold are in good shape, the flipbacks are well attached with no folding, and there is no writing or scuffs.
As is often the case with Beatles For Sale sleeves, the spine has a small tear at the top edge.
The corners are good with only slight signs of wear.
Overall a great sleeve that has been well looked after.

The original EMITEX inner sleeve is in better condition than most you'll see, with no rips, writing or major creases.
Graded as such as it has slightly discoloured over time.
I have kept the disc within an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve which is also included

Beatles For Sale is perhaps the Beatles most underrated album - but features some great country western style tracks.
This is a great copy to listen to it on - I've always enjoyed playing it.
The vinyl retains the mirror-like finish that it had when it was bought.
There are several surface marks to both sides - none which cause an offensive pop but which lead to a subtle dust crackle which is noticeable during the quiet sections.
It doesn't distract your ear however, and it is very easy to get lost in the music.
Both labels have visible tape residue. Otherwise both labels are very clean with no writing and without too much spindle wear.
All in all a great copy of an excellent record - a fantastic edition to any vinyl collection.
