THE BEATLES
HELP!
1965 1ST MONO
CAT. NO. PCS 3071
1st Press -2/ -2 Mono Matrices
An original copy of Help! having the ‘Northern Songs, NCB’ credit appearing below The Beatles band name on Side 1 label. This was quickly corrected.
Overall it is in Good Plus condition and plays much better than it looks.
Sleeve: Good Plus condition. Has retained its original glossy finish, bright coloration and contrast... Corners are a little rounded due to wear but with straight unblemished edges and spines. It is structurally sound; a couple of minor tears but no repairs, and no blemishes such as writing, ring-wear, or indentations. There is a slight rippling effect/ storage wear to the opening side edges particularly on rear panel. Lamination has a few creases emanating from top and bottom edge. Lies completely flat and the fold-over's are still well adhered and intact, and the rear panel is a little off-white but with legible sleeve notes. Quite respectable and strong sturdy card and great to know this would have been one of the first manufactured with that iconic picture of the Fab Four.
The Vinyl: In a very strong Good Plus condition ... Has retained a jet-black glossy pressing sheen all over both surfaces and looks to have been played a fair bit but handled well. There are no warps, no needle drops, no groove wear, no scratches. The surfaces are clean and have retained their original lustre and project a strong mirror-like shine. There are a fair amount of very feint non feel-able hairlines causing no loud audio problems; and a few wispy sleeve removal lines but only cosmetic and some very light scuffing. The condition clearly shows the potential for a decent rendition.
Mothers & Stampers: 4 LR / 2 GDH
Inner Sleeve: Original tracing-paper lined EMI advertising inner sleeve in Fair Condition with no splits but opening edge a little chewed up.
The Labels: Very Good condition. A fair amount of play-wear to the spindle perimeter, there are quite a lot of spindle lines. Has the early MT tax code, by far most copies to found with the later more common KT tax code.
The Audio: There are very little audible detractions, no major deviation from the original audio quality. It plays very well for such a rare find despite its condition it is very surprising how good it sounds, very clear and lucid with only the occasional static type tic and does have a a very small number of feint clicks which are only audible in a few of the linking grooves between tracks and quieter parts too; and possibly the odd static tic due to age of the record in some of the fades in's/ out's. Lucid instrumental detail with deep warm mono channelling and bass and loud and punchy vocals. No jumps, no pops, no skips, no background noise, no sticks etc. Overall very clear non troublesome and finely tuned audio, and they don’t come earlier than this. At least Very Good Plus audio.
