THE BEATLES

“HELP!”

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and hard-to-find original second MONO press released in Chile in 1965 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon, S.A. (Odeon Records), an EMI company, catalog number LDC-36543, with machine etched matrix numbers XEX 549-2 17N (“N” inverted) 43 in Side A and XEX 550-2 1C (“C” or maybe a “0” incomplete) 2 in Side B, with green/black Odeon/EMI labels. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND!!!

“HELP” was originally released in 1965 and the same year it was released in Chile, but like in most of the cases of that period, we got this album with an UNIQUE COVER and UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE!!! The cover is non-laminated and is the typical Chilean cover made of 2 single sheets of paper attached (not glued) to a thin cardboard kept together for an outer plastic bag. Front cover keeps the original UK artwork of the four Beatles (from left to right, George, John, Paul and Ringo), with the US design (!!!), with album title written in English only with red lettering (do I need to explain the details between UK and US releases?) and at the bottom edge written in Spanish only “Original Soundtrack From The Movie Of Same Title And Seven Tracks More”. Back cover is totally different, with album title written in English, translated to Spanish, and the complete list of The Beatles records, albums and singles, released in Chile until that moment, including catalog numbers and complete tracklist for each record!!! At the bottom is the boxed Odeon/EMI logo with black box for “Odeon”and at the 1/3 right side it’s the tracklist of “HELP”, written in English with capital letters and translated to Spanish, with credits and lead voice informed. It’s interesting to see that in back cover the sides are identified as “Faz 1” and “Faz 2” but in labels they are informed only “A” and “B”. In labels the tracklist is written in English only but album title is written in Spanish only and only in Side 1: “CANCIONES DE LA PELICULA “HELP!”” (Songs From The Film “Help!”). If this design of cover and artwork is UNIQUE, you can also find an error in these early pressings released here in Chile, the credit for songwriter of song “Tell Me What You See”, correctly credited to “Lennon – McCartney” in label, it’s misprinted “HARRISON” in back cover!!! WOW!!! UNIQUE ERROR WORLDWIDE!!!

Remember the characteristics you must see to know if it’s the very first cover and the very first record. You can compare with my other 2 auctions of Chilean “HELP!” pressings. In front cover of the very first press, at top left corner, it’s a double box with Odeon and EMI logo inside a white box and in back cover it’s only an unboxed Odeon logo at the mid bottom edge and it’s not present the “Serie Estelar” logo. In second and later pressings the double box Odeon/EMI could have the same design of both boxes white or the Odeon box black, with “Serie Estelar” at top edge at left side of the catalog number, and at the left bottom edge the same double boxed Odeon/EMI logo. In later editions they omitted the singles and added the covers of the 4 albums. In the very first press of the record, the labels are maroon/silver with big Odeon logo at top, “(P) 1965” written above the catalog number and “Serie Estelar” below the catalog number at left side of spindle hole. In second and later pressings the labels have a big boxed Odeon logo at top and a small boxed EMI logo at the bottom, with no mention to “Serie Estelar”. Pressings released immediately after the big unboxed Odeon logo still had the silver text.

The cover was already described and it’s in G+ or VG- condition, with creases and rips in all edges, more evident in the mouth edge, with missing parts in front cover, blemishes, age browning and writings in both front and back cover, some past owner tried to repair and protect the top and mouth edges with a paper glued in the backside and so far I can see it has worked very well, considering the outer plastic bag and original thin cardboards were removed for some past owner. The record isn’t so thick like the very first press and it’s in superb VG or VG+ condition both sides, glossy and clean but with many scuffs, hairlines and some light scratches which don’t affect sound. Labels are in EX+ or NM- condition both sides, absolutely clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is the best part of this record, it’s in strong EX or EX+ condition the Side A, loud, clear and clean, no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), no clicks, no pops, only some occasional crackles here and there, hard to hear if you are not looking for them and which don’t distract at all, and in EX- or EX condition the Side B, same condition of Side A but with some soft pops in “Act Naturally”, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the superb audio this record keeps from the beginning to the end. I can say most of the songs play in absolute EX+ or NM- condition!!! But I’d recommend a vacuum cleaning anyway. Overall, a nice record with an UNIQUE COVER, with still a very glossy look and a great sound quality after 50 years, a record to see and hear to enjoy from the beginning to the end, no repetitions, no sticks, no jumps, no distortions at all. WOW!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a copy of this RARE record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile.

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
