Description
I have collected records since I was very young, however Iincreasingly I have realised that I have far too many, and soI have been slowly trying to rationalise my extensive collection over the years, I have sold many major rarities over the years, from major BEATLES and 60s rarities, through PUNK and PROG ROCK, CLASSICAL and BLUES. Basically I've had alot of very rare records and in dribs and drabs have sold them off. I've never had negative feedback, and had many repeat customers.
Here we have...
THE BEATLES If I Fell/ Tell Me Why 1st EXPORT RARE DP 562
Here we have a very rare Beatles single ,pressed in the UK,but not for sale in the UK, and as such, very rare!
As Beatlemania spread across the globe, there were 5 instances where the UK factories pressed singles exclusively for sale in overseas countries, we call these UK export issues, these issue were If I Fell b/w Tell Me Why, Dizzy Miss Lizzie b/w Yesterday, Michelle b/w Drive My Car, Hey Jude b/w Revolution (on Parlophone), and Let it Be b/w You Know My Name (look up the Number) (on Apple and Parlophone).
The first release of these If I Fell/Tell Me Why, really was quite an unprecedented thing, very rarely had this happened before, that artists for whatever reason needed records to be pressed in the UK but not for sale in the UK. And so it was that THE BEATLES had two tracks from their EP Extracts From The Film A Hard Days Night EP (GEP 8920) pressed for foreign markets, and exported and sold as such. Now at the time, due to enforced list pricing in the UK, EMI singles had the text "Sold In U.K.Subject To Resale Price Conditions See Price Lists" printed on their 4-prong push-out central discs, as these discs weren't destined for sale in the UK, this text wasn't applicable, and was dropped on this release. When Beatle collectors and fans heard that there was a rare UK single available abroad, but not in the shops, they started asking record sellers to procure it,which they did, but, realising that technically due to the lack of the "Sold In U.K...." text, these retailers could re-sell these rare records to these stalwart fans for much more than EMI's standard list price, they did just that, and made extra money on the records as a result!
This is just such a copy, a rare, illicitly re-imported, export copy! How rare and exciting! (Please check my other listings,as I also have an incredible copy of the immensely rare "Domestic Press" of this title too, with the full story behind that title included in it's listing!)
Record Condition: VG A generally well cared for record, with a dusting of light surface hairlines and marks etc, but no marks that will be significantly detrimental to the audio. It has minor static in the quietest sections, but is still a very nice copy!
Labels Conditon: VG similarly conditioned, though has a name written in dark ball-point pen ink on the black B-side label, very hard to spot, but visible under scrutiny when angled into strong direct light. There is no futher grafitti, or tears etc, though there is a little spindle abbrasion near the central spindle holes of both sides, and slight rub-wear on the raised KT tax code on the A-side. The 4-prong central adapter holds strong. A generally nice copy!
