MINT (M) Perfect Condition, which basically means it is as good as new, literally. The vinyl has to look new and sound as though it was played once or twice, and the cover has to look as though it was just unwrapped from the store.
MINT - NEAR MINT (NM) vinyl is near perfect. At most a light scuff appears, but should play without noise or skips. The record sleeve should be near perfect with only minor signs of wear, such as rub marks at the corners from stacking in a bin. There should be no ring wear.
EXCELLENT (EX) Vinyl should play with no skips. There can be minor surface scuffs and very light scratches, but they should no affect the sound quality. The cover can have minor ring wear but should be mostly in good shape. Also, there can be some minor creases in the corners and rub wear but no seam splits.
VERY GOOD + (VG+) This is the grading wear quality of sound is affected, there will be some surface noise and the vinyl will show wear including surface scuffs a number of  light scratches. However the record is still very listenable and there are no deep scratches that cause skipping. The Cover may have bent corners and there may be wear to the seams but no tears or holes. There may be small writing such as initials present. 
VERY GOOD (VG) Vinyl doesn’t necessarily look good, but still plays well enough. Surface noise will be present, including pops and clicks. At high volume levels the music will probably overpower this. The cover may have seam splitting but not complete separation of the sleeve panels from each other. There will be noticeable ring wear on the cover, but should for the most part be in good condition.
GOOD (VG-) Vinyl is well played and look it. However it should still play without skipping. It will have substantial surface noise, pops and clicks. Loss of various parts of the dynamic range will occur due to worn grooves. This condition depends on the owner and the types of records one collects. A rock record may still sound okay at high volume, but quieter styles of music will be practically unlistenable. The cover will have many problems including large seam splits, tears, holes and substantial writing or ink.
FAIR/POOR (F/P) I normally do not deal in these records. Using the word fair for this quality of record is too generous and not recommended since it may be misleading. Records described as fair or poor are basically unlistenable. Surface noise skips, pops, crackling makes hearing what’s on the record nearly impossible, if not completely impossible. The cover would be falling apart, torn, ripped and have writing all over it. Trashed.
