-
“MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR” LP by The Beatles
-
This LP is Capitol Records MAL - 2835.
-
This is the UNCOMMON and HARD-TO-FIND MONO (monaural) PRESSING.
-
Mono pressings were issued November 27, 1967.
-
“Magical Mystery Tour” was the LAST U.S. Beatles LP title to be issued in MONO. The subsequent Beatles LPs released in the U.S., “Abbey Road”, “The Beatles” (aka: “The White Album”), “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” (aka: “The Beatles Again, were ALL issued ONLY in STEREO in the U.S.
-
As you may know (and to quote Perry Cox):
“MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR” IS ONE OF THE SCARCER LPs TO FIND IN THE MONO FORMAT, AS IT (monaural) WAS BEING PHASED OUT AT THE TIME. FAR MORE STEREO PRESSINGS WERE MADE.”
-
The GATE-FOLD COVER is in STRONG VG to VG+ CONDITION. There is light overall wear (as you can see in the images). There is a “drill hole” near the top right corner (that goes through the front and rear covers and the booklet inside) which most likely designated this LP for quick sale as a “cut-out” to sell at a much-reduced price in a “cut-out bin” of cheap clearance records. Mono pressings such as this LP were being phased out as more folks preferred to buy stereo pressings, so record retailers sought to move them quickly via “cut-out” sales. There is light wear on the corners, and two small “pushes” on the corners at the top and bottom of the rear portion of the gate-fold cover that houses the vinyl record. “S 1967” is written in blue fine-tip marker on the lower right margin of the rear cover. There are NO seam splits.
-
The 24-PAGE FULL-COLOR BOOKLET is included and partially attached inside the gate-fold cover. Page 1 backed by page 2 and page 23 backed by page 24 are still attached (glued) inside the cover. The remainder of the booklet, pages 3 through 22, are all still stapled together, but they are not attached inside the gate-fold cover.(It is quite common to see this booklet separation in copies of this LP.) All pages 3 – 22 are all still stapled together. (I have included an image that shows that this detached but completely stapled together section of the booklet fits between the first and last pages of the booklet that are still attached by glue to the inside of the gate-fold cover.) There are NO missing pages. There are a couple of very small tears at the staple holes on pages 1 and 2 (as you can see in the images), but they are still well-attached to the LP cover. Page 1 of the booklet has “HASLUP” (name of a previous owner probably) written in fine-tip marker at the lower corner and a light crease at the top right corner.
-
This is an EAST-COAST PRESSING. We know this because:
1) East Coast inner gate-fold slicks have “No you’re not!” under “I Am The Walrus” in block print. (West Coast issues have “No you’re not!” in hand-written print.)
-
The VINYL is in NICE VG CONDITION. There are a number of light surface hairlines/scuffs (but none of them are “feelable”.) The vinyl has lots of gloss. “HASLUP” (probably the name of a previous owner that matches the name written on Page 1 of the booklet) is written in fine-tip marker in the color-band of the Side 2 label.
2) The vinyl has the symbol “O” that identifies Capitol’s Jacksonville, IL pressing plant in the trail-off vinyl.
It’s a NICE MONO PRESSING of the BEATLES’ “Magical Mystery Tour” LP to add to your vinyl collection.
