ONEADAYRECORDS – Delivering Quality Music to the World

Please see my Detailed Packing Description Further Down & All Shipping Costs and Options.

Artist or Band: THE BEATLES

Album Title: Magical Mystery Tour (original Mono EP).

Producer(s): George Martin.

TRACK LIST:

Side 1: Magical Mystery Tour; Your Mother Should Know.

Side 2: I am the Walrus.

Side 3: The Fool on the Hill; Flying.

Side 4: Blue Jay Way.

Label/Format: Parlophone – Four pronged black and silver format. First pressing with ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd’ and ‘Sold in UK’ etc text. Sides 1 and 4 have the embossed KT tax codes each side of the hole. Both of these fragile, fine letters are pristine, totally unflattened and retaining all original ink, so perfect in fact they are not that easy to even see. Most of these will chip and rub very quickly and even erode and flatten on heavily played examples. This pair have had very few plays reitterated by the original owner.

Label Conditions: Beautiful clean labels, the type that Beatles connoisseurs will treasure. Spindle marks are very few indeed and fine and light. No wear or chipping around the hole areas or even around the ultra fragile prong cut out areas either, extraordinary, but true.

Cat Number: MMT-1.

Mode / Speed: Mono / 45 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity: Few standard issue Beatles records are rare or even scarce with a few exceptions. Most sold in vast numbers. Conditions are a different matter and finding the mono issues especially in little played condition is far harder. This EP was available in both mono and stereo and those who bought the mono format usually did so to play on a mono record player. Often stacked and dropped with other 45s, played on heavy tracking players, often with a worn stylus that destroyed the sound. Many, if not most were played into oblivion and are now unlistenable these days, especially when played on modern clinical stereo systems. This famous psych EP is difficult to find little played and including a superb, undamaged cover book. Even the inners on this copy are unsplit. A premium example that sounds superb with little unwanted, and 45 rpm records often crackled from new – fact.

Original Year of Release: 1967

Matrix Nos: 7XCE 18435-1 / 7XCE 18434-1 / 7XCE 18436-1 / 7XCE 18437-2

Stamper Codes: ? MM / 3 TL / 1 MR [‘1’ could be a ‘7’] / 1 GL

Brief Artist & Album Info: Six songs as featured on the TV film ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, as originally issued on this double EP set with the beautiful book and double wallet packaging inside. Only later in the 70s did the UK issue a full length 33.3 rpm album that included extra songs and then only in stereo. Only in the US did the full length album come out in mono. This beautiful early pressed ‘original’ EP is becoming elusive in clean conditions and this one sets a high standard all-round. Playing at 45 rpm often means a little more surface sounds and potential wear, but both of these records have few marks and without doubt are very modestly played. The beautiful, but delicate book has been very well looked after and again looks terrific, all pages firmly double stapled into the cover spine, a third central staple is inside only. Giving little away in terms of age, all pages are super clean, practically unmarked with no creasing. The inside covers often set-off badly, but this has been largely avoided too. This is dificult to avoid where the dark ink rests against white card but this is as light as it ever gets. The cover and book pages are in superb condition, and defy their great age. Any darkening or yellowing is minuscule. The inside laminate wraparound is a darker colour, but quite honestly I have never seen an example that isn’t. All staples original and rock solid and untarnished by rust. The single flipbacked storage areas are superb, often torn, damaged and very grubby due to lack of laminate protection, these are near perfect and any traces of marks or discolour ultra light and barely visible. This has no chipping, creasing and has a near perfect spine and unusually, not badly feathering at the ends, just microscopic chip traces near the very bottom. All page edges are crisp and sharp. As for the records: the six songs all play with high clarity with NO distortion, that must never be taken for granted on this, or any mono record. Lacking the usual crackle and distortion that comes from over-played 45 rpm records, this is a mono copy that can be enjoyed. Any minor surface sounds are few, light and any present are mostly on the non-music areas. Silence for all six songs is a massive ask and this is not dead silent throughout, and being honest, I doubt if too many were even from brand new. This was popular and mass-produced in vast numbers, was pressing quality the utmost concern anyway?, I doubt it. Now entering it’s 44th year, it’s amazing this miniature masterpiece could ever be found like this today, but the reality is it can be if treated with the respect it deserved, but as we all know, only a small percentage survive this clean. I am not stating this is pristine perfect, but it will take an exceptional one to better this significantly.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT++, this being ultra critical, there is so little to fault on this beautifully preserved and delicate book-cover. The best I have seen for a few years, not months. A beautiful thick cover with a 24-page book inside that includes stills from the film, lyrics and psychedelic cartoons. Two laminated single flipbacks, one at front and one at back, the blue colour pages are included too. Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. A miniature work of art that really should please most-all Beatles collectors.

Lamination: Front and back, retaining a lovely gloss sheen and as clear as they get with no dulling or clouding at all. A few ultra fine and faint surface marks or mega-fine hairlines seen under light but no creasing and both sides are fully adhered. Importantly, this has the mono mode on the back and correct Cat. Number.

Cover Front: Very fresh looking with barely a trace of any wear or handling. This really looks fantastic with bright, clean and vivid artwork. This gives few clues to it’s amazing age.

Cover Back: Same again, an astonishing clean back to match the remarkable front, the lack of burring to the extreme edges is a huge bonus too.

The Book: All pretty much described in my preamble. The pages are very clean with no tears, splits or creases all with neat edges. Quite unusually too, this is dead flat with no humidity waviness that many get with age. Once this sets in, little to nothing can flatten it again and all pages here are very flat indeed. All 24-pages are very clean and looking terrific. Artwork is sublime. The three staples are almost like new and uncorroded.

Top Edges: Very neat and showing minuscule traces of wear only. Any thickening or burring barely even registering.

Bottom Edges: As above or even better.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, crisp and sharp with barely any wear at all, these fine ends, that retain all artwork, have rock solid laminate with no cracking. Records are stored inside the front and back covers behind a delicate fixed flap (both rock solid, mostly very clean and untorn or split).

Spine and Text: Near Perfect: solid, square, uncompressed with both staples unloosened and solid, both originals. No text printed on this cover and this is folded squarely, hence both right edges are parallel and flush making a very neat and tidy cover. One near microscopic chip only (but look very hard indeed).

Corners: All corners have tiny tip rubs, how many will not have?, let’s be honest. Both spine ends are exceptional, the top being little short of as made and the bottom little far behind. Shape remains sharp and neat, all quite exceptional really.

Cover Summary: An almost stunning all-round example of this famous Beatles double EP cover, one that could will prove very difficult indeed to find significantly better. This beautiful item should please most collectors, even the most discerning can consider it too.

The Inner Sleeves: Both Excellent. Unlined with open windows and with the distinctive wavy top openings. One has a crease near one corner only and the odd small tone spot or two. These have an unusual two flipback construction, one on bottom, one on side and all edges are intact. Very fine whiteness retained and both again set a high standard, the crease apart.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT, again being somewhat conservative for 43-year-old+ mono 45rpm records. A very fine visual pair with only very light and fine surface marks, mostly hairlines and like the cover, it will take a very special, almost unplayed pair to better them significantly. Clean, shiny, jet black and very solidly pressed, these look very nice indeed. A few mild marks lie within the pressing but have no audio effect, as stated above, this set were massed produced and quickly to meet demand and I feel sure there was scant concern about pressing quality which does in this case is generally high.

Records Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilaus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both EPs play even above their high visual grading with little to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed, typically psychedelic sound, perfectly produced, as usual by George Martin. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and sound quality if exceptionally high for 45 rpm records, no pops or clicks were noted and the usual higher speed crackle was mainly absent from the music, any traces minor, light and faint – remember too what I am playing this pair on – more at home on a Dansette than an LP12. Slight surface sound was (just) detected between a couple of songs, but silence is a huge ask here on this format. Few copies will play much better than these I feel sure – truly, I have heard some shockers in the past and I will not offer any record that fails to please me, especially ones less than rare. Both channels are clean and sharp with lovely clean clarity, the lack of echo, distortion and groove-wear is a massive plus of course but can never be taken for granted. The music flows with detail, place and rhythm only the vinyl really offers. This Beatles classic will prove challenging to find significantly better in mono and the same goes for the cover too.

End Piece: Delightfully packaged with enjoyable sound with little unwanted, this mini-album is never easy to find in mono in less than considerably played conditions, this is a class product in every respect. An age-defying example all considered, the records are not unmarked but only lightly and superficially so with NO penetrating scratches. That is unusual, one jolt or drop of that old mono needle, and there’s another copy written-off, this has simply not happened on this one. This merits high recommendation for sure.

Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, a couple more at weekends if time permits, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee total accuracy for colours however but most will be very close. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.

Equipment Used for Play-Grading: I now play-grade ALL the records I offer (unless clearly stated to the contrary) on the following equipment:

Deck: Linn LP12/Hercules/Cirkus with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Rondo Red moving coil cartridge (tracks at 2 grams). Amps: Naim Nait 5i with Project USB phono stage and Chord interconnects. Speakers: B&W 704 Floorstanding 3-way Monitors (bi-wired with QED Silver terminated cable). All records I offer on Ebay are cleaned on a professional Moth vacuum machine before play-grading for the cleanest and best possible sound and will include a brand new lined inner and protective cover too.

First-time, zero-rated bidders, who do not ask permission to bid, will be cancelled immediately and blocked – NO exceptions. For winning bidders who I consider excessively slow to make contact or submit payment, I will use my right to block future bids. If any bidder who wins in the final seconds is present to do so, surely they can at least email me to inform of intention and payment method? If swift or promp payment is a problem, please do not bid.

PACKING - THIS IS WHAT YOU GET - PLEASE SEE MY TYPICAL PACKING BOX PICTURE.

What You Get: To confirm to the strict Ebay rules on shipping, I must now send ALL my packets ‘Signed-For’ with NO exceptions. Both buyers and sellers want their packets to have a safer journey and this is not a bad thing.

I now offer the fastest possible posting, often the very next day after payment is received or within two to three days maximum (unless on holiday). I only use FIRST-CLASS Mail. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my Moth Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional thick boxes (NOT Mailers or Cruciforms, these do not offer maximum protection). The record(s) REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with THREE or EVEN FOUR ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. The thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. Please see my picture of a typical finished box packet that will now be used on ALL transactions as from now. I do not profit on posting and the cost of this lavish packing is NOT even charged for, I offer probably the best-value and safest shipping possible for ultimate confidence. These boxes and ultra thick double-wall stiffners and bubble wrap make a near impregnable fortress for safe shipping and this is used inland and overseas for ALL my records, not just the rare and expensive. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends. My ‘loss’ or ‘damage rate’ is less than one in two thousand based on over 6,000+ items sold in over 8 years of Ebay trading and I consider that pretty exceptional. The only damage rate acceptable for this seller is ZERO and I think my packets will offer just that. It would take a vicious postman or postal service to damage these for sure. Even one of these stiffners cannot be bent by hand, so what chance 3 or 4 inside a box? Oneadayrecords is a MAILER-FREE ZONE. I discount of course for multiple purchases with a maximum of FOUR records per box (one double can sometimes be included subject to total weight). I will not respond to questions on shipping costs as all the details are included here and on ALL of my adverts. Details below:

NOTE: First Time Bidders: I will cancel ALL first-time bidders with no feedbacks or excessive negatives who do not ask me if its OK to bid first – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder unless prior notice of any delay is given beforehand. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance – it’s always worth asking.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
