THE BEATLES - Nowhere Man ORIG Parlophone 45 EP / GEP 8952 (UK,1966)
Very happy to present the rarest Beatles UK EP - Nowhere Man featuring the title tune plus Drive My Car/Michelle/You Won’t See Me.
This is a full first press original package and NOT an original vinyl housed in a 1973 sleeve, like many are.
The original front laminated double flipback sleeve has survived its 44 years very well and is still strong and reasonably fresh with not many faults. There are 3 light corner creases to the front, but no ‘thumb’ creases or heavy creasing which jumps out at you, you have to tilt the sleeve to notice them. There’s also a slight ring impression to the front but again you have to look in a certain light to notice it. No real wear to either top or bottom edge nor the spine. Opening edge still strong and fairly sharp with only 1 small rub. Some inevitable corner bluntness but not much at all. No writing to either front or back, no foxing on the rear with both flipbacks still solidly glued down. No stickers, nor residue but just a touch of discolouration to the rear (more toning than yellowing). All in all (and I want this to be a true grade for you Beatles enthusiasts out there) maybe not quite an EX but better than a top VG so I’m going with EX- on this very satisfying, flat lying sleeve.
The labels have the 1st press ‘sold in the UK’ text and show mild to moderate spindle trails more on the A than the B. No writing, residue, dirt or damage to the yellow and black ‘65 vintage.
The vinyl has obviously been played and under close examination shows several light scuffs and a few larger hairlines mainly to the b-side. There’s a few other very small surface marks BUT NOTHING WHICH IS DEEP AND NOTHING WHICH INTERFERES WITH THE AUDIO. Visually, I’d say it checks in at a VG on side 1 and VG- on side 2. Audibly it’s much better than that (EX) particularly on Side 1 which plays with near CD silence and super undiminished sound! There’s just a few light ticks on the intro to Michelle on Side 2, and one pop towards the end of this song. Other than that there is NO audio problems with this disc - NO snap, clicks, hiss, distortion or loss of clarity. It bears all the marks of a quality 1960’s Parlophone pressing and I think will not disappoint unless you’re only looking for cosmetic perfection rather than great audio.
Phew! Original Nowhere Man UK Eps don’t show up too often. Don’t miss this one!
