Description
For auction is an incredibly early first U.K. mono press of The Beatles debut album PLEASE PLEASE ME .
It was pressed with the incredibly early 1G and 1R stampers - making it likely it was one of the first 1000 copies off the press - a true piece of history. You hardly ever see such early stamper examples.
The original ‘Gold’ sleeve, with the photo credit on the extreme right, is in VG+ condition- much better than most examples you will see. There is corner wear, but the edges are in great nick, there is no writing and even the rear fold over flaps are in great condition.
The original use Emitex inner sleeve is in excellent condition.
The labels are excellent - really clean and clear with no writing or scuffs. Dick James credits show it is a first issue - although the stamper numbers totally prove that as well.
Visually and sonically side 1 is VG. There are some visible scuffs and shallow lines, but nothing too deep. Plays through with minor crackles in some quiet passages. No clicks sticks skips or jumps
Side 2 probably VG-, most of the side plays as well as side 1 but there is more crackling and a few ticks in tracks 3 and 4. Still plays through without sticks skips or jumps.
This is a chance to own a significant piece of rock and pop history. Not an audiophile copy but still a great listen.
