Description
WOW!!! This certainly needs little introduction from me but here I go anyway:
Here I have for auction one of the most sought after Beatles records in existence! A 1st UK pressing of their first LP Please Please Me in glorious Mono! This contains the correct earliest "Gold sleeve" with the Photo: Angus McBeam credit positioned all the way to the right of the front sleeve...all later pressing shifted this to the left under the "g" in songs. Not only that, but these are the EARLIEST 1ST PRESS labels containing the Dick James publishing credits for several songs instead of the 2nd variation black and gold labels which changed It to the correct "Northern Songs". This is the most desirable version of this landmark album- an absolute first pressing in the earliest sleeve with the earliest labels and very EARLY mother / stampers of 1O and 1L making this one of the earliest ever pressed!
Mother/Stampers:
Side One: 1O
Side Two: 1L (both EARLY 1st mother single letter stampers!)
Sleeve: VG to VG- Ernest J Day earliest "Gold Sleeve" almost always found in this condition or much worse. In fact, this is one ove the nicer examples I have seen! The sleeve has inevitable corner bumps and most noticeably a missing tab on the bottom but the rear of the sleeve is in remarkably great condition, with little to no evidence of handling, stains or marking! Apart from the missing tab it is one of the cleanest rear sleeves I have seen! Though the Ernest J Day text is missing on the tab, it is obviously an EJ Day sleeve due to the wide flipback tabs. The front is also in great shape though along the bottom it is flaking a little and some of the white beneath is showing through. Please see pics! Also, the top of the sleeve shows flaking and wear.
Disc: VG- These discs are nearly impossible to find in great shape and this one is no exception. Many hairlines and more visible yet not feelable scratches. I have play tested the record and it sounded lovely, mostly only crackling and the occasional pop. There are however 3 small jumps - one almost imperceptible TINY jump on Boys and two brief but more noticeable jumps at the beginning of Love Me Do but they are indeed brief and play right through. Honestly, there is nothing quite like listening to an early 1st pressing of The Beatles first LP! It truly is a piece of history and there was nothing serious enough to take away from the enjoyment of listening to this record! A professional clean would no doubt do WONDERS at removing the crackle from the years of dust built up in the grooves.
Labels: G+ to VG-- Without a doubt the biggest flaw on this LP are the label removal signs on both labels. They are fairly large and have either covered or removed much of the upper part of the labels though I am unsure if they could be removed. I honestly don't think so but the rest of the labels are in great condition actually with minimal wear and only some spindle wear. The song titles are very bright and legible including the all important Dick James credits! Make no doubt about it- this is a 100% original EARLY 1st UK pressing of The Beatles very first album.
Inner Sleeve: EX- to VG+ Original Emitex inner sleeve included and apart from some tea stain splatters on one side is in EX condition with no splits or tears!
Overall, this is a very decent playable copy of one of the most important and historic records in existence! I am open to offers so give me your best one and I'll consider it. This is your opportunity to own this rare classic at a fraction of the price of most copies!
I strive for 100% customer satisfaction so in the unlikely event that a problem should arise please contact me and I will do everything possible to correct it! Please look at all photos carefully and don't hesitate to ask any questions!
I package all LPs very carefully - the disc will be put in a high quality MoFi inner sleeve and shipped outside the sleeve and placed into a th quality resealable Japanese mylar outer sleeve with cardboard stiffeners on both sides and placed into a brand new high quality LP mailer.
If you live outside of the USA, UK, Germany or Australia please contact me first to make sure I will ship to your location. I will ship to most countries but there are a few exceptions. Thanks for looking and good luck!
