PMC 1202 *MONO*
This is the first one of these Holy Grail records I have ever seen, what a find! I think these gold and black albums must be a good investment, the prices seem to be going higher each time I see one sold. Last month an Ex condition stereo sample sold for over £10,000 on eBay, who would have believed that was possible, there were dozens of bids. Don’t worry I’m putting a ridiculously low reserve on this record so someone just might get an absolute bargain. I will describe it to the best of my ability as I know condition is vital on an album of this rarity.
LABEL The label is very much Ex+ condition, I can not actually see any wear at all around the record centre hole and I cannot see any spindle slithers or marks. There is one small scratch mark on side one just under where it says The Beatles but really it is breathtakingly outstanding, all clear and almost new looking both sides.
RECORD
SIDE ONE Track 1 (I saw her standing there) has a split second literally barely audible feather-light tick (if you were not concentrating you would not notice) it is minute. Track 2 (Misery) plays Ex. Track 3 (Anna) plays Ex. Track 4 (Chains) plays Ex. Track 5 (Boys). Track 6 (Ask Me Why) plays VG++ with just a little whisper crackle towards the end but if you were not concentrating you wouldn’t notice, it is not overwhelming, in fact it is hardly there but I had to mention it.
SIDE TWO Track 1 (Love Me Do) plays VG++ basically the same as (Ask Me Why). Track 2 (P.S. I Love You) plays Ex. Track 3 (Baby It’s You) has two or three miniscule feather like ticks, not loud, and split second. I am being as critical as possible so there are no disappointments. Track 4 (Do You Want To Know A Secret) is Ex. Track 5 (A Taste Of Money) has a couple of very faint feather-like ticks, barely noticeable. Not loud or even moderate whisper faint. Track 6 (There’s A Place) is Ex. Track 7 (Twist and Shout) is Ex.
There are light surface marks and light scratches so the record is not mint but it plays with no jumps, sticking, loud crackle or background and the record plays totally flush on the turntable with no warps.
SLEEVE
The sleeve is a very nice sample indeed; the spine is very clean and tidy top and bottom. The top two corners have light dot scuffs. The bottom has light surface scuffs, very small. The sleeve opening is tight and very clean. The back of the sleeve is the cleanest I have ever seen, it really is exceptional. This record cover has usually been well handled and well worn and dirty, this one really is a stunner, all clear, tight and clean. A real belter! I would grade the sleeve as VVG+ complete with the inner which I believe is the original.
ALL IN ALL A GREAT PIECE OF POP HISTORY WHICH I AM SURE WILL ONLY INCREASE IN VALUE.
