THE BEATLES

Title : Please Please Me       Label : Parlophone      Cat No : PMC 1202

Matrix : XEX 421 - 1N / 422-1N      Issue : UK 4th Mono RARE J Tax Code

This is the 4th Mono press of 'Please Please Me' by The Beatles. The labels are Yellow & Black, with the 'Recording First Published' date. The record is complete with the laminated flipback Ernest J. Day mono sleeve, however this is an unusual press. We have only ever seen one before and have only ever seen a couple listed - this has a rare ‘J’ only tax code and the code does not match the date of this release. In the first place it should be the full JT or KJT, however a J or JT would not usually be pressed on vinyl this early. It would have been on a 1968 or later press, but this vinyl would have been pressed in 1963.

The record is in Very Good+ condition. The vinyl has a sensational high gloss, every track looks superb. There are just a few very slight wispy marks on both sides. There are no significant signs of play at all and it lies completely flat on the turntable. There is the slightest noise at the intro but this soon clears and the sound is rich and extremely clear. It still has the wonderful early heavy vinyl vibrant, complete sound. There are a few moments of noise but this does nothing to spoil the enjoyment of this superb heavy vinyl press.

The earliest yellow and black Parlophone label is exceptionally clean. The black is bold, the yellow is bright and the text is sharp. It clearly displays the rare J tax code on Side 2. There is just slight spindle wear. The record is complete with its original Emitex polylined inner sleeve.

The laminated flipback sleeve is in Very Good condition. The colours are bold, the laminate has a stunning bright mirrored shine and the picture is extremely clear. There is a little light corner and edge wear. The flipbacks are sealed, although there is a little wear and the unlaminated back is extremely bright. There is slight discolouration but it is still extremely clean. The text is sharp and the black is bold. The spine is firm with clear black text on a clean white background.
