The Beatles, Please Please Me.

Stampers:Side One: GPD - Side Two: GPD.
Vinyl:Not mint, but an unusually clean issue.
Vinyl grades top end VG. Spider trail marks around the spindle areas suggests a fair amount of plays and there is a little whitening at this area. Vinyl surfaces still have a high gloss however. There are a few light scuff marks, and maybe four or five of these are slightly more visible. However, inspecting the surfaces with a magnifying glass reveals underlyingly clean surfaces which are not a network of fine hairline marks. The few marks that are visible are isolated marks on an otherwise very clean LP. There are no deep scratches or marks. This is clearly an LP which has received relatively careful handling.
Actual playback is superb throughout. There is no distortion, and the LP, even though a later press, still has that sonorous, rich and punchy mono sound that has never been bettered. There is some minor background crackle heard at the silent bands between tracks, but this is hardly heard at all throughout the actual tracks, even at quieter moments. There are no ticks or clicks.
Note that I have not cleaned or treated the LP in any way (see notes below).
Labels:A side label has penned initials to the Parlophone logo and some penned doodling to the first three letters of the yellow Parlophone. This is all fairly spidery and unobtrusive however. Else the labels are clean and undulled and free of tears or loss.
Sleeve:Sleeve is also a cleaner survivor than usual. On the whole clean, bright and unmarked. Front panel has a good gloss still, and laminate is complete and unpeeled. A few light and tiny hairline creases leading in from edge areas, and just a touch of a diagonal crease to top left corner. Predominantly white rear is still fairly bright with just a touch of natural age and handling toning. Some smallish penned initials to bottom right, just above backflap. Three miniscule penned strokes to liner notes. There is an approx. inch by half inch patch of whitening to the top centre of the rear, and above this the backflap has some tan water tide marking. It's unclear if the white mark is a stain or the result of an attempt to hide a stain beneath. Either way, being white on white this is not overly detracting. Backflaps are intact, although a little dinged and chipped in places. Edges areas are very well preserved and there is no scuffing, fraying or seam splitting. The spine still has a really good unmarked appearance. Entry side is still crisp and firm and not worn, chipped or feathered. Tips are lightly worn, exposing the underlying surface material, but this wear affects only a very tiny area in all instances.
Inner Sleeve:Original "Use Emitex" poly lined inner is in very clean and unmarked condition. Touches of natural creasing to extremities and along the line of the vinyl. A tiny nick to top centre of one edge.
Summary:A generally very nice copy of this LP with very acceptably clean playback. A big seller in its time, but few have survived the last near 50 odd years as clean as this.

A Note On Grading:Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.
Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
