Description

THE BEATLES - VINYL "RUBBER SOUL" LP 33.3 rpm

Matrix Numbers: XEX 579-4 XEX 580 - 4 (not reissue)

December 3rd 1965. Mono. Classic UK Parlophone First Issue PMC1267 on the black & yellow original label, with "Sold in the UK" and "The Gramophone Co." credits, and front laminated flipback Garrod & Lofthouse picture sleeve.

Both the -1 matrix and the -4 matrix are generally considered "first pressing", as many copies have -1 on one side and -4 on the other, and both were issued at the same time.  (The -1 mix is generally considered substatially inferior to listen to)
"Listening to a –4 tube cut mono LP on a high-resolution system is a wonderful experience. With centered lead guitar and vocal tracks featured strong in the mix, a connection to the music exists that’s simply not possible when listening to the stereo mix. Overall balance on this pressing is excellent with tonality that is rich in texture. “Drive My Car” featuring John’s tambourine and Ringo’s drumsticks, is reproduced with believable clarity. And on “Norwegian Wood”, realistic sitar and guitars ring out with convincing natural reverberation. This pressing really shines on the more complicated tracks like “Think For Yourself” with its layered vocals and distorted Rickenbacker bass. I’m not recommending the rare –1 “loud cut” LP simply because it is not as musical as the others."

Condition of Vinyl: Very clean. The audio quality is Very Good+ with no pops, clicks or jumps, and just some light occasional background noise in the very quietest places.

There are a few light scuffs that are visible under a strong light but absolutely nothing audible.

Condition of Labels: The Yellow & Black Parlophone Labels are both in nice clean condition, with some light wear to the centre hole & a few fine spindle marks. With original owner's name label as illustrated.

Condition of Sleeve: The original outer sleeve is in Very Good Condition for its age, with an unbroken bubble near the laminate at the top left due to a light fold, and some fingermarks visible on the reverse. The Spine has clear text. The original Emitex inner sleeve is yellowed after 55 years, but remains clean with no splits to the edges.
