Description

THE BEATLES Rubber Soul BLACK YELLOW Parlophone Mono 1965 CLOSE TO EX

The Beatles, Rubber Soul.

1965 UK pressed Parlophone mono LP, PMC 1267.

Earliest black and yellow labels with KT tax code embossed to centre of A side.

Matrix numbers: XEX 579-4 / XEX 580-4

Mothers/Stampers: GAA 3 / GPH 4 8

A generally very well preserved issue. The centre areas show a number of spider trail marks, although not excessively so or to the point of wear. These marks are over accentuated in the photos and in reality can only be spotted by viewing the labels when rotated in front of the eyes. Although the LP has clearly received a few plays it has been very well cared for and is very much cleaner and brighter than is the norm. The playing surfaces are still very glossy and display just three or four light scuff marks and a very few barely visible paper scuffs. Visually grades close to EX.

Playback is also overall very clean and grades not far from EX. There is no continuous underlying background noise or crackle and the overall sound quality is still bright and not dulled. Playback has been tested in entirety. The very first note of the A side is accompanied with a single soft scuff which is not particularly distracting. There are a couple of barely perceptible and very soft ticks at the end of "Drive My Car". There are a couple of very soft ticks right at the end of the fade out and band separator after "You Won't See Me". There is very slight distortion to the second half of "Michelle". There are a very few soft ticks at the beginning of side two, which only just touch on the first track, but which are by and large virtually overpowered by the track. Else a comfortable EX with playback free of crackle, ticks or clicks.

Original polylined Emitex sleeve is clean and unmarked and without seam splits, but has fairly marked diagonal corner creasing.

External "Garrod and Lofthouse" sleeve close to EX. Overall very bright and clean and not tired or worn by overhandling. Just a few minor pinchline creases leading in to main panels from edge areas. Rear panel still very acceptably clean and white with just a couple of very small and minor tan stains near bottom. Small and unobtrusive previous owner inscription in silver pen to top centre of rear. Backflaps are intact and undamaged. Edges are very well preserved and without wear, scuffing or splits. Spine very well preserved and with fully legible print. Entry side still acceptably firm and not feathered. Just a touch of whitening to tips but without noticeable rounding or loss of definition.

All in all a very nicely preserved LP which is far cleaner than the majority of extant issues.
