Description

An original 1st press of 'SECOND' on the Capitol label - from Jamaica. Matrix A1/B4 and stamped with the Scranton 'IAM'. Most Beatles records were pressed in great numbers and are about as far from being "rare" as you could possibly imagine. But every now and again something pops out of the ether which is both Beatles & rare. These Jamaican copies are few and far between - take a look on-line...they are extremely hard to track down. In fact, I can only find one other example of 2nd on ~~Popsike~~ in the last ten years.... which gives you an idea of the scarcity level we're talking about. Note the funny typo on side 2 - 'Long Tail Sally'! This heavy-set pressing from '64 comes housed in a standard USA cover [they all did]. The cover is most definitely original to '64 with the paste-over front as you tend to find in this period.
Vinyl (Ex-) In impressive condition and has clearly been cared for. Not all '64 Beatles records look or play like this copy. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, NEAREXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. If you're looking for a sweet playing clean copy - you could do a lot worse than this copy. Delivery is clean with lots of punchy energy. Difficult to find fault. Yes you might detect just a touch of lightest static briefly in a couple of spots per side [precious little]. Overall a blindingly good player and, considering the vintage, you'd struggle to find a better playing copy. In fact - I think we can honestly say....YOU WON'T.
Cover (Vg) The front cover looks very nice with light ageing and little surface wear. Most will exhibit a lot of surface wear - so this is pretty decent condition. On the rear there is the usual ageing you tend to find on this vintage. Not BAD, but it is obvious to the eye. So, the rear is acceptable - no better. Edge wear is less than you often find from this period. But there's a wear-through at the top of the opening - two inches. And in the middle at the bottom it has just worn through for one inch. The text on the spine is showing a touch of wear, but it is still just about mostly legible. Thanks to the heavy card construction this cover still retains excellent rigidity.
