Released on the Parlophone Records label in 1967, catalogue number PCSJ 7027 (YEX. 637/YEX.638) this is the original South Africa pressing/release of The Beatles classic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band vinyl album. This is the Stereo version and is the very first, original pressing with the matrix number YEX 637 - 1 on Side 1 and matrix number YEX 638 - 2 on Side 2. What i cannot stress enough is the fantastic condition the record is in. The record on both playing sides is in absolutely as new, perfect condition without a single blemish showing anywhere. It literally looks like it has only just been purchased from new. The sound quality is quite unbelievable without any pops, crackles or distortion to be heard. It sounds like you are playing a CD but in only even better sound! Some of the instruments and sounds literally jump right out at you from the speakers. I have been collecting vinyl for over 40 years and have never come across a record that sounds and is in better condition.
The album cover is also in superb condition. Unlike the UK release, and other releases from around the world, where the record came in a gatefold cover, for the South African market this record was simply packaged in a single panel/non gatefold cover. The colours are still bright and vibrant, with no discolouration, and there are no creases, marks or damage to the corners or spine of the cover. The cover is laminated and there is no lifting of the laminate.
The only thing that isn't original is the paper sleeve that the record comes housed in which comes from circa 1970. However this paper sleeve is still interesting to look at, showing the albums EMI South Africa were promoting at the time.
As i have mentioned, anybody looking to own an original, 1967 first pressing of this album would struggle to find a copy in better condition and i can guarantee that who ever purchases it will be extremely happy with it.
