Description
Very rare promotional copy of Sgt Pepper, original MONO (with different versions of some songs). There is no cutout insert.
Cover has the word "FREE" punched into the upper right corner, which goes through the gatefold and inner sleeve. There are some markings on the back cover next to some songs, this was done by the disk jockey. Cover is overall between VG to VG+ condition (see photos). There is some rub wear and the top and rear seams has some light cracking in the paper.
Record is overall around VG+ condition with a few hairlines and use from being played. There are no promotional markings on the record itself.
Comes with the original psychedelic inner sleeve which also has "FREE" punched into it (how many of these have you ever seen punched?).
1st print cover variation without either the NEMS or Maclen Inc. publishing credits.
1st run misprint label variation with "A Little Help From My Friends".
Scranton, PA plant pressing with “IAM" triangle stamped in the inner groove.
This promo copy came from the collection of famous WWDC radio station disk jockey Carroll James (aka "The Man Who Broke The Beatles") who was instrumental in the rise of Beatlemania in the US. He was the first DJ to play the Beatles extensively on the radio, forcing Capitol records to release Meet The Beatles six weeks early in the US to meet demand. He was gifted with the chance to interview the Beatles which he released on a 45. James was also the emcee for their first US concert in Washington DC. I have other records from this collection coming up for sale soon.
