Description

THE BEATLES 'REVOLVER' 1966 MONO LP.

Pressed in Great Britain and released on Parlophone PMC 7009.

Parlophone Yellow/Black Label.

"Sold in U.K...." statement; 'KT' tax code on the side 2 label; "THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD..." Rim text & P. 1966.

Matrix codes etc:

Side 1: XEX 605-2  4  L  T.

Side 2: XEX 606-2   2 P.

Has the 'Dr. Robert' title spelling rather than the later 'Doctor Robert'.

Looking at the photos you can see that this pressing has an indentation that runs around the outer edge of the labels about 10mm inside the edge. After researching this on the Internet I think that this not a [CBS?] contract pressing but IS in fact an EMI pressing that has been made with the one of their older pressing machines, those that were still in use at around the time that the Please Please Me Black & Gold pressings were released. It appears that some of the machines were recomissioned in 1966 to help cope with demand. This may have been done to avoid contracting out the pressing to other companies. It seems that only 'Revolver' & 'Rubber Soul' of 'The Beatles' releases were ever pressed like this. So I suppose that it makes them something of a rarity in their own right. If anyone knows differently please feel free to contact me.

Visually grades as VG/EX [see below].

When tilted under normal daylight there are quite a few thin, light surface scratches on side 1 between approximately 10 o'clock & 12 o'clock. Some of these are across the side and one runs into the dead wax & curves into track 6 at about 3 o'clock. In amongst these here are two smaller scratches that are responsive to the touch. Side 2 has only a couple of short, light surface marks.

Under strong halogen lights there are only a few more marks visible on either side.

There are quite a few spider lines around the spindle holes which are not visible in the photos.

Play grades as EX-/EX.

Despite the surface marks on side 1 it plays really well. There are no 'clicks' except for a few muffled ones right at the end of the last track on the side and also there are very few 'tics'.

Front laminated Garrod & Lofthouse 3-flipback patents pending sleeve grades as EX.

Really nice example of this iconic sleeve.

Plain white paper inner sleeve grades as VG.

Has 'Patents Applied For' in the bottom left corner and 'Made In Great Britain' in the bottom right corner so probably the original but I can't be sure.

I dispatch records in brand new, bought in mailers designed for the process. Before placing in the mailer I take LPs out of the sleeve place both in a polysleeve and between two card stiffeners and if there is a picture sleeve I place the LP in a plain sleeve to prevent knifing of the picture sleeve. [all this costs £0.80/single LP].

I WILL COMBINE ITEMS TO GIVE SHIPPING/HANDLING COST BASED DISCOUNTS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING MORE THAN ONE ITEM PLEASE E-MAIL FOR DETAILS.

I USE RECORD COLLECTOR GRADINGS AND USE A +/- WHERE I FEEL THAT IT'S APPROPRIATE.

(M) MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as sealed or unplayed should be mint.

(EX) EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of being played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging may have slight wear and/or creasing.

(VG) VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

(G) GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

(F) FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

(P) POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

(B) BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
