THE BLACK BELLES – Self Titled LP – Uncensored original limited edition, TMR 122
This is the original very rare self-titled debut album by The Black Belles, the American all-female ‘garage-goth’ rock band with catalogue number TMR 122. This version was issued as a limited edition of only 300 copies on green-coloured ‘absinthe’ vinyl with the now legendary picture sleeve. They were only available to attendees at Third Man Records in Nashville for The Black Belles record release show (11 Nov. 2011). The initial front sleeve artwork was considered offensive (see photo) so quickly censored and discontinued. The LP was subsequently re-issued by Third Man Records with an acceptable straight-forward black & white group photograph on the sleeve, hence the rarity of this original issue.
The Black Belles are: Ruby Rogers (bass), Olivia Jean (vocals, guitar, organ), Shelby Lynne (drums), Lil’ Boo (synthesizer). The songs, all written by Olivia Jean, are: (side A) Leave You With a Letter, In a Cage, Wishing Well, Honky Tonk Horror, The Wrong Door, Breathing Down My Neck; (side B) The Tease, Howl at The Moon, Pushing Up Daises, Not Tonight, Hey Velda.
This record was still sealed in polyfilm when it came to us (with an area of shrink-wrap approx. 20cm x 80cm missing from central front). The leading edge of the polyfilm was carefully split by us solely to reassure that the disc colour was the unique green. It is! See photo. We have obviously not played this mint record and have not even removed the disc fully from the inner.
